-1980年前：短期合同，arms-length relationships，每个环节都有很多供应商。
-外部供应商竞争大，内部供应商不变。
-Nevertheless，内部部门交流少，零件工程师和装配工厂也交流少。

Second,reduction in vertical integration contradicts the predictions ( it should rise)

recent change move us back to supplier relations earlier in the twentieth century ( outside suppliers were close and vertical integtation was rare)

a buyer firm -->change the structure of input market.
But: the buyer faces a trade -off (promoting tech progress<-> maintaining buyer bargaining power)
