That's true there are not many people with IT background. For example, only one student from Greater China area in recent two years is from high tech industry.

There are some but very few people getting into HBS without working experience. You apply when you feel you are ready, regardless of the time you have worked.

What I can suggest is that you should try to convince yourself and then the admission that you have demonstrated the level or potential in terms of A Habit of Leadership, Capacity for Intellectual Growth, Engaged Community Citizenship,  through internship experience, community service or other social activities.

According to my knowledge, I don't see any negative point of view from admission in this issue. I can give you two examples. First, we have women students here who had babies before HBS and raised them here in HBS. Second, we have women students who gave birth to baby during MBA and we have mom-club...

academic experience的范围有多大？如果说大学里非语言专业，学习某项语言并由其中的成就得以参加了一些重要的活动，算是academic么？

I am wondering whether telephone interview places the candidate in a kind of disadvantage, compared to campus interview. Thanks.

advantage:you can prepare a cheat sheet in front of you to help you survive (although i dont recommend that because when you are reading something, it is totally different from telling a story from listener's perspective)

disadvantage:no eye contact; no body language; require more in psychological quality of the interviewee

advice: try to use your voice to express your feeling; mock interview through telephone to experience the real situation

It's hard to say because we don't know the number of applicants from each industry. My advice is that don't rely too much on the historical record, since it is YOU not the past applicants that makes the admission into HBS.

This essay is quite flexible according to my experience. "Academic experience" only provides a context while the content could be quite broad. You can definitely write your language experience if that story can best explain or highlight your adademic experience. Again, the best essay tells reader what kind of person you are.
