to joe11，我觉得你把slightly lower 的对象给理解错了，我看题目里说的是用量上slightly lower了 而不是价格上lower了，所以种植新棉在农药上的花费应该是：（种植旧棉的大量农药－slightly的一点）*农药价格  E说由于该农民以前需要用的农药特别多所以换了新棉，可是无论原来种旧棉用多少农药，种新棉都只会使用量slightly lower 又不知道两种棉所用农药价格有没有不同，所以E不好，而B，突出了新棉旧棉所用农药价格上的差别，于是种植新棉的农药成本就变成了：（旧棉农药量－slightly部分）*（旧棉农药价格－more部分）两个乘数都减小，结果必然减小（前提是非负） 呵呵  你看呢

答案肯定是B，只不过不容易看出来。把B改成“传统作物农药的价格比‘转基因’作物农药价格谁高？”就好理解了。E的话有一点道理，但是没有B来得尖锐。

试种的亩数是否和以前种的一样多,其实对杀虫剂的平均用量是有很大影响的,这里面有个规模效应的问题,

比如种一万亩棉花平均每亩用1升,那么种一亩可能就需要10升,因为喷到周边地块上的可能性大,浪费也多.

所以比较用量,应该是基于同等规模上的数据才准确.

还是要回到原题：the amount of insecticide needed per acre to control insect pests was only slightly lower for those who tried the modified seed than for those who did not.
是拿用新种子的和没用新种子的比较。结果是只少一点。

没用以前是用得非常之多。exceptionally实际上也隐含了一个比较。
如果所以没用以前比其他人多很多，用了以后比其他人少一点，实际上还是节省了。

如果B种的other crops是包括改良后的新品种，我支持选B。但不是的话，B不应该是答案。

做题时，我根本没有找到一个合适的选项，最后是选了D，但实在很勉强，感觉所有选项都是无关。
