8月5日 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave.

When it comes to the question of whether movies and television have more negative than positive effects on the way young people behave, people' opinions are different. Some believe that they are the reason of their children' bad behaviors, while others believe that these media helps their children expand their outlook, develop resistence to some unacceptable things in their daily life, and also make them relaxed. Meanwhile, movies and television are only one of so many factors which can affect one's behavior. Therefore, the saying that movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave is unsounded.

To begin with, it is obvious that movies and televison have the benefit to broaden young people' horizon. Programs provided on the television are relating to various subjects, such as economy, politic, science, technology, sport, and so forth. These programs are up-to-date, easy to access, and widely available to young people, this can help them learn what they want effectively and conveniently. For example, I am a student who study physics in university. One of my favourite programs is called "nature world". It talks about events happened in the nature world, such as volcanic eruption, hurricane, global warming, and analyzes the reasons which cuause them. By watching these programs, I learn so much knowledge that our professors never mention in our classes. In fact, my experiences are not rare, everyone who wants to know the mysteries of the nature can do this with the help of TV programs.

Moreover, the criminals are punished in the end in most of the movies or some TV programs. This gives young people who watch these movies a sign that if they do the same thing, they will be punished too. Thus, watching these movies helps young people distingish which is benefitial and which is baneful. Next time, when they face the same situation, the information they gethered from the movies give they the wisdom to choose the right side. For example, after watching robber is sent to prison
by the policeman, other people may have the consideration of the bad result of robbing others. As a result, when they fact the same question, they will not do the same thing.

Finally, when young people develop some bad habits, their parents and other people may blame the movies and television in the first place. They think that young people like these media, and imitate actions of the leading role in the movies or in television programs for fun or to show themselives. But, they just ignore other factors which are more influencial than these media. For instance, their parents, teachers, friends all have considerable effects on young people' wrong behaviors. Young people spend more time with those people than they wactch television or movies in their daily life. In addition, another point is that before the programs in the television or the movies are shown to the public, they need to be censored, programs which are allow to be screened are considered acceptable by the experts. Thus, it is meaningless to relate young people' misbehaves to these movies and consider these movies are the only factor which influent young people.

Of course, it is ture that movies and television have some bad effects on young people, but the violence scenes in them are limited. Therefore, to exaggerate the nagetive effects and diminish the positive ones are not sound. Thus, based on what I have discussed above, the statement that movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave is unreasonable.

The author of the reading text talks about some evidences that one painting was not really painted by Rembrandt(some evidence which proves that one painting...可能会更好些). On the contrary, the professor in the lecture does not agree with the author, and she says that after carefully examining of the painting it is concluded that this painting is indeed a work of Rembrandt.

First, in the passage the writer states the inconsistency of the painting. However, the professor argues that the fur collar was not belonged to the original painting after the test of X-ray research, instead, it was added to the painting 100 years after the painting was made in order to increase its value by making the woman in the work look like a lady. In this case, the point in the reading is disputed by(这里改为被否决会更好 be refuted by) the lecturer.
Second, the problem of light and shadow in the paint, pointed out by the writer of the passage, is also rejected by the professor. She explains that after the fur collar was removed(这里不对,按你那么说的意思是,画像一开始是有collar的,后来被人remove了.应该改为,在collar添加之前blablabla...), the woman wears light color clothes which reflect light to part of the woman's face. As a result, the light and shadow is well fitted in the painting.

Third, in contrast to what the author said in the reading text that this painting was glued together so that it was unlikely painted by Rembrandt(不是painting glued together 而是画画的板panel glue together的), the speaker gives listeners the fact that because the extra part of fur collar was added to the original painting, other pieces of wood was glued to it. People who added these wood also wanted to increase the grand and value of the painting. In addition, the speaker further provides another discovery to support this point. She says that another self-portrait of Rembrandt with a hat was painted on wood panels(Rembrandt画的画都是用一个panel的,所以这里不能用panels) from the same tree as the painting of a woman. According to the professor, the arguments made in the passge(passage) are totally unsounded.

8月6日   high school students should take a course on basic economics

Nowadays, many countries across the world undergo a great economic depression, such as the E.U area. An increasing number of people are talking about the future trend of the world economy. One of the question relates to this discussion is whether high school students should be required to take a basic economic course. Some people believe that high school students do not need such a course, they already have many courses to study, and basic economics is useless for them if they do not major in economics after they enter university. While others think that basic economics has a close link to everyday life, and when their children are studying in college or after they get married, they need to have some knowledge about economics. Personally speaking, I agree with the statement that high school students should take this course.

To begin with, taking basic economics course helps high school students obtain the basic knowledge of the commercial aspect of social life. The reason is that  economics is about analysis of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, which connect tightly to students' daily life. Then students could understand the role of some economic phenomena, such as the fluctuation of the price and deposit rate. Students will use these knowledge when they grow up. Thus, taking general economics course gives high school students the general knowledge of financial system of the society.

Moerover, students would become interest in how to earn their own money and then learn how to budget their money properly if they take a course on economics. When students are at primary school and middle school, they are not old enough to do part-time jobs. When they go to high school, they are old enough to take some work experiences in order to cultivate their independence and also make them try to relieve the economic burden on their parents partly. As they take some part-time job, students contact with various people from different background of the society. This work experience is very different from what they do in school, they have to finish all of their work without the instructions of teachers and the help of their classmates. Therefore, doing this help them form independence and is also an advantage for their future work.

Finally, a general economic course could benefit high students on their study on other subjects. Economics is a complementation to natural science like math, chemistry, physics and so forth. The methods used in economics are different with which used in natural, because the solution to a scientific problem may be only one, while the solutions to an econimic question are various, according to the concrete situation. For example, it is useful for high school students to know how to solve some problems about how daily supply and demand can impact the price of products.

Of course, add new course to high school students will increase their working load. Also, to carry it out means that the school have to hire new teachers and the increase of credit hours to students. However, from the benefits I listed above, it is safe to draw the conclusion that it is necessary for high school students to take a basic economics course.

The author of the reading text talks about evidence of dinosaurs are endotherms. On the contrary, the professor in the lecture says that many scientists have problems about the author's conclusion. These scientists do not think these evidence can prove dinasaurs were endotherms.

First, the professor explains that the climate when dinasaurs lived was warmer that today's. As a result, dinosaurs could live in the polar region. In addition, they could migrated to warmer places or hibrinated during cold seasons of the year. Thus, the polar dinosaurs evidence does not proves that dinosarus were endotherms.

Second, the professor says that dinosaurs had legs under their body in order to support their weight. By doing this, dinosaurs could grow into large size. And large size animals had lots of advantages at that time. Therefore, the running evidence in the reading text is not sufficient enough to prove that dinosaurs were endotherms.

Third, the professor admits it is true that dinosaurs had haversian canals. However, there were also thick growth rings on dinosaurs' bones. The growth rings indicated diansaurs growed slowly or even stoped growing during cool period of the year. In contrast, real endotherms growed quickly all around the year dispite the surrounding environment was warm or cool. In this case, dinosaurs were not endotherms as the author said in the reading text.

8月6日 修改  high school students should take a course on basic economics
蓝色模版,黄色需修改,红色修改,绿色总结
Nowadays, many countries across the world undergo a great economic depression, such as the E.U area. An increasing number of people are talking about the future trend of the world economy. One of the question relates to this discussion is whether high school students should be required to take a basic economic course. Some people believe that high school students do not need such a course,【since】 they already have many courses to study, and basic economics is useless for them if they do not major in economics after they enter university. While others think that basic economics has a close link to everyday life, and when their children are studying in college or after they get married, they need to have some knowledge about economics. Personally speaking, I agree with the statement that high school students should take this course.【第一段由一个社会现象引出话题,表达了俩观点,最后明确了自己的观点。结构很清楚】

To begin with, taking basic economics course helps high school students obtain the basic knowledge of the commercial aspect of social life. The reason is that  economics is about analysis of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, which connect tightly to students' daily life. Then 【through learning some basic economics,感觉这里加这么一句话会好一点,因为前面的taking basic economics这个主语已经被第二句话隔开】 students could understand the role of some economic phenomena, such as the fluctuation of the price and deposit rate. Students will use these knowledge when they grow up. Thus, taking general economics course gives high school students the general knowledge of financial system of the society【最后一句说明了taking general economics的好处,但是从结构来说,把这个小结论变成students should take this kind of courses会好一点?可以讨论下。】.

Moerover, students would become interested in how to earn their own money and then learn how to budget their money properly if they take a course on economics. When students are at primary school and middle school, they are not old enough to do part-time jobs. When they go to high school, they are old enough to take some work experiences in order to cultivate their independence and also make themselves try to relieve the economic burden on their parents partly. This work experience is very different from what they do in school,【since】 they have to finish all of their work without the instructions of teachers and the help of their classmates. Therefore, doing this help them form independence and is also an advantage for their future work. 【这一段是说上了经济的课会使他们对挣钱和钱财的管理感兴趣,然后说了对这些感兴趣之后的好处。但是我觉得,他们一定得do part-time job么,如果不是的话,后面的话不就白费了?】

Finally, a general economic course could benefit high students on their study on other subjects.【good point!】 Economics is a complementation【补充?】to natural science like math, chemistry, physics and so forth. The methods used in economics are different with【from】 which used in natural, because the solution to a scientific problem may be only one, while the solutions to an econimic question are various, according to the concrete situation. For example, it is useful for high school students to know how to solve some problems about how daily supply and demand can impact the price of products【这里最好阐述一下为什么useful?而且这个例子是为了证明什么?感觉和point不是很切合,最好有个 from this case, we can see...】.

Of course, adding a new course to high school students will increase their working load. Also, to carry it out means that the schools have to hire new teachers and the increase of credit hours to students【这句话是不是放在 means that 后面the schools前面好点?】. However, from the benefits I listed above, it is safe to draw the conclusion that it is necessary for high school students to take a basic economics course.【最后一段让步了加课的缺陷以及对全文的总结。

In order to solve the problems of the present and the future, people should review the past.

What would you do when you face problems in your life? Just sitting down and trying to create the answer from nothing? or you may try to review your past experiences to find some similar questions, then see how these questions were solved. By doing this, one can not only save time, but also can have a better understanding of the present situation and prepare for the future. Therefore, I agree with the above statement, and my reasons as follows.

In the first place, learning from the failures of the past can help us avoid making the same mistakes again, at the same time, sucessful experiences help us solve similar problems. As an old saying goes:What has been will be again; there is nothing new under the sun. Therefore, by realizing and learning from the past, both individuals and countries could develop quickly with less setbacks. I would like to cite one of my own experiences in studying as an example. When I was in high school, I began to realize that the mistakes I made in the test will reappear in the next one if I did not correct them and review them regularly. I clearly remembered one mathematical equation that was very diffcult to understand competely. After relizing this quesion, I reviewed it for several time, untill it became familiar in my mind. Then, I synthesized all the problems related to this equation and analyized it carefully, the solutions to the similar questions linked to this knowledge all filled in my brain. Next time I confronted with this type of question, I could solve it quickly and accurately.

Another point to consider is that, learning from the past can help us do better in the present and move on in the future as well. In my opinion, review the past is not about remembering everything and knowing everything on a time line, but about analylizing people and societies, and interpreting the decisions that were made in the past in order to help us understand the events of our own time. For instance, the great depression during 1930s gave American the opportunity to relize their problems within the development of economy. Through the new deal, American economy recovered in only a few years and the development became more healthy and stable that before.
By learning from this, other countries which confront with the same problems nowadays can also walk out difficulites like Americans.

In the end, I have to admit that some problems may never existed in the past, as a result there are no past experiences to learn from. In this case, reviewing the past becomes unnecessary under certain situations. These situations happen frequently in the scientific feild. One example of this is that little record could be used for scientists who study the outer space such as mars, the moon, or other objects out of our solar system. These scientists need update facilities to observe the objects they interested in, and think out new method to anlylize the imagines bring back by these facilities. But the new methods and facilities are also used by people who study the same objects in the past, and scientists can find some useful informaiton from the work of their forrunners.

In conclusion, some problems indeed have no counterparts in the past, that why innovation comes, at the same time the development of human beings. However, even innovatin is based the knowledge from the past, as a result, it is safe to draw the conclusion that review the past in important for people to solve the problems of the present and the future.

In the reading text, the author talks about three uses of the "great house" in New Mexico. On the contrary, the professor in the lecture casts serious doubts on the author's theories. He says that none of these theories are convincing.
First, the author says that one of the uses of these houses are residential. However, the professor argues that there are not enough fire places inside these houses to ensure hundreds of families' daily cooking. The reason is that the fire places in the largest house can only support ten families, but the biggest house is large enough to be lived by one hundred of familes. Thus, the residential theory is totally unsounded.
Second, the author also states that these houses could be used for storing maize. In contrast, the professor points out that there are not traces of spoiled maize on the floor. Furthermore, not one single of large container is found in these houses. As a result, although the space may be suitable to store large amount of food, the evidence which support this theory is no found.
Third, the author hypothesises that houses may be used for ceremonies, because of the pots found in the mound in these houses. However, the professor points out that other materials such as sand, stone, and building material are also be excated in the mound. In the professor's opinion, the mound is most likely to be a trash pile. Construction workers who built these houses at that time put these materials as trashes in the mound. Then, the professor further explains that the pots might be throwed by construction workers after they ate their meals. In this case, the ceremonial theories is also unconvincing, according to the professor.

Another point to consider is that, learning from the past can help us do better in the present and move on in the future as well.
