The reading text talks about some advantages of fuel-cell engines. On the contrary, the speaker does not agree with the viewpoint made in the passage. She says that it is too optimistic. At the same time, fuel-cell engines are not the solution to the problems.

First, in contrast to what has been stated in the reading that hydrogen is easy to access, the speaker explains that hydrogen in water and natural gas are not directly usable. In fact, hydrogen needs to be made artificially and convert to pure liquid state so that it can be used in fuel-cell engines. However, it is very difficult to do this because this process needs very low temperature.【文中说的low temperature 好像只是一个example,不能直接说because the low temperature】 In this case, it is not very easy to produce and store hydrogen. This directly contradicts to its counterpart in the reading text.

Second, the speaker points out that unlike what is said in the reading text, the process of producing hydrogen will pollute the environment. The reason is that the process of producing hydrogen needs coal or oil as power and, the burning of coal or oil will polluted the environment.

Third, the speaker says that fuel-cell engines are not cheap as what is said in the passage since one metal which is necessary to produce fuel-cell engines is too expensive. And without this kind of metal, the rate of chemical reaction in order to generate electricity will decrease. Scientists do not find another metal to replace this one yet. Consequently, the fuel-cell engines are expensive at present.

To be honest, I disagree with the point that an efficient leader will always try to make everyone feel that she/he is one part of decision making. It is obvious that decision making is tightly connected to the fate of one company or an institution, so that all leaders should pay close attention and consideration pay considerable attention toto the decisions they made. At the same time, time must be spent if leaders try to do this, they have to do some manysome many重复了) things in order to address every employee. Consequently, their work becomes less efficient and time consuming.

In the first place, the secrets of one company should not be known to every workers. No one can deny the fact that if one secret of a company is leaked to its competitor, this company will eventually fail and lost its advantages in the field.Have any employees in NASA know everything happened in it? Have you heard that policeman has been told what they will capture a criminal in details? In fact, the list goes on and on. All of these facts lead to one conclusion-secrets must be kept.

Another point I want to emphasize is that trying to make every worker knows about the decision making is time consuming. For leaders who want to make everyone feel like one part of the decision making, they must spend time, such as address a meeting, call every one to inform them, and so forth. In fact, this process costs so much time of leaders, which they may spend on other important things. Take my life experience as an example. The headmaster is planning to build a new library and, he wants to hear everyone's voice about this plan, so he decides to let all students, teachers, and other workers in our university to make suggestions on this plan. It takes so almost half a year yet the final decision has not been made. (这里我不确定soyet的用法)

In fact, I have to admit one fact that workers will feel like they are being treated as on part of the company if they feel they are one part of decision making, they feel they have been respected by the leaders. Consequently, they may work more hard harderas theirthey are working for themself. On the other hand, the potencial damages are unpredictable according to what I have written in the second and third paragraph.

To sum up, secrets must be kept for a company and making everyone feel like one part of decision making is time consuming. Although doing this may incite employees to work hard, its disadvantages far outweigh its advantages, therefore, an efficient leader will not do this.

文章很不错,尤其第一点保密,观点很好。后面的让步也很好。向你学习。

The reading passage talks about evidences which support pollution explanation of the decline of sea otter. On the other hand, the speaker does not agree with these agruements. She says that predator explanation seems more consistent with the facts and, is more likely to be the cause of the decline for the following reasons.

First, unlike to what has been said in the passage that pollution is the cause, the professor argues that if pollution is indeed the reason, there must be some dead sea otter can be found on the beach. In fact, researchers cannot find any dead sea otter along the coast. At the same time, the predator explanation is consistent with this situation, because predator will eat sea otter so that no dead sea otter can be found.

Second, in contrast to what the reading text states in the reading that orcas only hunt large animals, the professor points out that as human has caught most whales in this area, orcas have to rely on smaller animals such as seals, sea lions and sea otters for their survival. This can better explains the wide decline of sea otter.

Third, the reading passage also cites that scientists believe pollution hypothesis could explain the uneven pattern of sea otter decline. On the contrary, the speaker explains that this uneven pattern can be better explained by predator. Because shallow and rocky places are not easy access to orcas, sea otters in these places remain unchanged. And at others which orcas can easilly get, sea otter population declined drastically.

This can better explains the wide decline of sea otter.

Third, the reading passage also cites that scientists believe pollution hypothesis could explain the uneven pattern of sea otter decline. On the contrary, the speaker explains that this uneven pattern can be better explained by predator [hypothesis]. Because shallow and rocky places are not easy access to orcas[这里最好提一下因为orcas 很large的原因], sea otters in these places remain unchanged. And at others which [other places where] orcas can easilly get[arrive], sea otter population declined drastically.

【细节各方面的都挺好的,不过我觉得把得注意下不要延伸lecture中的意思,还有最好多用一些能表明前后句关系的逻辑连词】

9月7日 Some people think university professors should spend more time doing research while others think they should spend more time educating students. What is your view?

I believe that university professors should spend more time on educating students. First I want to make a confession that there is not conflict between doing research and educating students for professors in college, in fact these two things are tightly connected to each other rather than do harm to. With the progress in a professor's academic level, she/he can educate her/his students better than before with more professional and advanced knowledge, experience and information. But as the statement concerning on which subject should professors spend more time on, I think it is more important for them to teach students and this is their main responsibility.

In the first place, what students need is a professor who can pay more attention to them but not one that spend most her/his time on research. No one can deny that students choose to study in university in order to gain knowledge so that they can be in a favorable position in the future job market. Then they want to learn more practical skills, but not in-depth knowledge which will not come in to use in the next twenty or thirty years later. Take myself as an example, the top reason I enroll university is to find a job with a pretty salary and then I have the extra energy to think about other things such as how to be in the next few years. In this case, it is more important for professors to meet students' needs on spending more time on educating them but not doing research.

Another aspect I want to stress is that one common phenomenon in the top universities-Harvard MIT, or Yale-is that professors all put much of their attention to educate students, at the same time, their academic reputations are the best in the world. What does this mean? The answer is that it is really working if professors spend more time on educating stuents, both the professors and students can benefits from it and, even the school as a whole.

Of course, I have to admit that doing research is equally important for professors since they may want to improve their reputation in their field and, sometimes to keep their leading position. On the other hand, one interesting record is that most of the Nobel laureates are coming from universities especially the top universities  but the research centers. As what I noted in the third paragraph, these universities are more inclined to spend more time on educating students. Consequently, spending more time on students will not hamper professors to do research.

To sum up, most students need professors spend more time to educate them and this will benefit professors at the same time. In addition, spending more time will not do harm to professors' research. Therefore, I strongly believe that professors should spend more time on educating students.

The reading text talks about several reasons that the subject of one painting is Jane Austen. In contrast, the professor does not agree with those explanations,  saying that none of the evidences in the reading are convincing.

First, Austen's family authoried the letter seventy years after Austen's death. As a result, no body of her family members had seen Austen. In this case, the subject in the painting cannot be confirmed to be Jane Austen by her family members who had never seen her. This directly contradict its counterpart in the reading text.

Second, unlike what has been said in the reading text that the portrait depicted Austen, the professor argues that its subject might be one of Austen's distant female relatives. Austen's relatives resembled her face to some extent. This casts doubt on the evidence in the reading text.

Third, contrary to what the author states in the passage that the style of the portrait links to Ozias Humphrey, the professor points out the conclusion could not only based on style. In addition, he points out that the canvass used to make this painting was from a businessman who did not sell canvass in London until Austen was twenty-seven years old. As a result, the girl in this painting is unlikely to be Austen herself. Consequently, this portrait could not be Austen, according to the professor.

9月8日   The most important investment of a company is to improve the skills of its employees.D\A
Nowadays, an increasing number of companies become to focus on finding the best methods to improve their profits as well as cutting costs. Gernerally speaking, there are so many ways can be used to obtain this goal. It works for a company to spend money to update their equipments, to cultivitate its future labor forces in a university, or to improve the work skills of its employees. In fact, everyone knows that a factory can not work without workers, even the advanced technologies today help some companies finish part of their work by robots. Therefore, spending money to improve the work skills of its employees is the basic option for a company.

The main reason to improve worker's skills is that it can improve the work efficienty of the workers. Workers becomes familiar with the processes of their work, the way about how to do better and to save time after they are trained. Thus they reduce the time they spend on their work so that in the same amount time compared to the untrained workers, they can produce more products. Meanwhile, when they become familiar with the processes, they will make fewer mistakes than before. This also contributes to improve the work efficiency. Therefore, by improving worker's skills, the company can produce more products with high quality.

Anotehr aspect I want to stress is that one company can make more profits by improving their worker's skills. As what states in the previous paragraph, more products means more money for the comopany. At the same time, if the workers in the sale department are well enough to persuade their consumers to buy their products, these products will bring real money to the company. One improtant way to help the sale workers is to improve their work skills. Thus it is very important for a company to invest money on this.

After the work efficiency and profits are all improved, the company will develop more quickly. The company will have more money to invest on other things that can help it develop faster and bigger. Such as the company will have the ability to purchase more sophisticated machines to produce more precise products. And at the same time they may afford new technologies to produce new products which can make more profits for the company, and to compete with other companies in the same field.

Of course, one risk of improving the worker's skills is that they may choose to work for other companies after they learn the skills and the company can not provide them with the salaries they need, or the promotion they demand. However, this risk can be avoid by a lot of solusions, such as a contract between the workers and the company can be made to ensure the worker work in the company for certain year if they want to be trained by the company. As a result, improving the work skills of the worker is one important, basic and essential step for a company.

The reading text talks about the fact that rare and important fossils are now being sold to privete collectors for millions of dollars, which is an unfortunate development for both scientists and public. However, the professor totally disagrees with this viewpoint by saying that s/he exaggerates the negative aspects and, she has three points to prove her judgment.

First, according to the professor, the general public have more exposure to the fossils because of the commercial exchange of the fossils. She says that even public school and labrary which have not enough founding now can afford some fossils, then display them to the public. Thus, private sale and buying activity helps public gain more chances to see the fossils. This directly contradicts the statement in the reading text.

Second, the reading text states that scientists would lose the chance to test the fossils since the private collectors will not give them the chance. On the contrary, the professor points out that it is the scientists who identify the fossils first before them go to private collector's hand. Therefore, scientists would not miss any important discoveries when they examine and text the fossils. As a result, the assumption in the reading text is totally unsound.

Third, the professor provides the facts that there are not enough universities and government institutions to unearth all of the fossils around the world. Based on this point, she believes that it is better for private collectors to locate the fossils rather then let them completely undiscovered. Consequently, the opinion in the reading text has been weakened.
