7月6日Do you agree with the viewpoint that people are now easier to become educated than in the past?
When I was little, my grandfather told me his story about how he got educated in order to incent me to study hard, and told me to cherish the precious chance to be educated. He stated that he had to weak up at six o'clock on the morning, then walked to shcool which was six miles away from his home. Textbooks were rare at that time, so one textbook was used by two students. Meanwhile, there was only one teacher at his school, he taught all of the courses, which inculde literature, history, but no math and other nature science courses. At that time, I was in the sixth grade in primary school, the teaching conditions were much better at that time just only fifty years after my grandfather's study story. So, based on my own experiences, I believe people are now easier to become educated than in the past.
To begin with, modern people have so many ways to get educated than people in the past. The main way to become educated is to enroll a university, whether it is at one's hometown or abroad. Most of my classmates at primary school choosed to study at university, some of them even went to study in the United States or Canada. Then, vocational schools and community colleges also provide opportunities for people to become educated. My classmates who did not have the chances to study in university went to these schools, they also learnt weel and have a good job after they graduated. In addition, I have to mention that nowadays, people also can choose a on-line education. This way is convenient and much cheaper than traditional education.
Moreover, the development of transportation system help present people travel fast and conveniently. Cars, trains, planes all save the time people on their way to school, and also make it possible for people traveling long distance so as to study the stubject they interested in. When I want to go somewhere to make a survey, I can easily get there by driving my own car. It only takes me several hours to arrive at my destiantion. Also, when I want to take part in a international conference, I attend there by air, whether it is in my homeland, or in the U.S. In only a few hours I can go to every places on this planet by a planes. In this way, I can keep in touch with my peers in the same field, exchange some ideas with them, and improve my own knowledge. On the contrary, people in the past had to spend more then one day or even a few months on their ways in order to visit some famous scholars.
Finally, mass education offers the opportunity for every one in modern society to become educated. Countries around the world give their people free education from primary school to high school, some of them provide free university education for their citizens. In China, the central government requires all school-age children to participate in nine-year compulsory education system. Now, this system has become universal both in urban and rural areas in China. Some primary schools provede free meals to students whose financial conditation are not so well. While, my grandfather told me that, fifty years ago, only people who had enough wealth could go to school to become educated, most of his friends needed to help their parents do field work since they were very young, thus, they had no opportunities to go to school to study.
Of course, television, movies and internet were not available in the past, people in the past also had only a few entertainments to relax themselves. Therefore, they could focus their energy and time on study. While, without the electricity, they could only learn during the day. Candles and oil-burning lamps were not bright enough and did harm to their eyes. So, based on what have been discussed above, there are so many advantages to study in modern society. It is obviosu that people nowadays are easier to become educated. |
