Some facts:
WSJ ranks Yale No. 3 in strategy (Ranking is always highly debatable, but it at least provides one perspective.) We have a bunch of good professors/courses in strategy and general management, and SOM also offers concentrations in leadership, marketing and strategy, which is a very popular focus among my classmates.
As for top tier strategic jobs, SOM students got into BAH, BCG, McKinsey, Mercer, AT Kearney, Monitor.....Just a few days ago, the Career development office announced it will bring Strategic Planning Group of American Express to do on-campus recruiting. Prior to this year, SPG’s recruiting efforts were focused on Harvard, Wharton, and Columbia.
As for top tier industry positions, we have people at BP, ExxonMobile, Unilever, DuPont, PepsiCo, IBM, DHL, Nestle, P&G,Wal-Mart, J&J, GE capital, Motorola, Cummings, Intel... To my knowledge, DuPont, PepsiCo, and DHL are hiring for their leadership development program on campus. IBM also did so, but the company didn't accept international students. BTW, five minutes later we will have ExxonMobile's on-campus presentation. As the economy is getting better, the school is expecting more opportunities in industries.
Having said that, to get a job with a top tier firm/company is not an easy job, esp. for international students. School can help you connect to major firms/companies, but eventually you need to rely on yourself to make things happen.
