。。get it get it 了,谢谢谢谢

to robertchu:

Your reasoning is very reasonable. But I'm still confusing with my reasoning. Where is the problem of my reasoning?

following is my reasoning.

我选D.

The quality of unrefined olive oil is not actually defined in terms of acidity, yet extensive tests have shown that the less free oleic acid an unrefined olive oil contains per liter, the higher its quality.  The proportion of free oleic acid that an olive oil contains is an accurate measure of the oil’s acidity.

1. 注意第一句的yet, 是反对前面的陈述, 也就是作者认为---The quality of unrefined olive oil should be actually defined in terms of acidity. 这句话应与extensive tests have shown that the less free oleic acid an unrefined olive oil contains per liter, the higher its quality所表达的意思一致.

2. The proportion of free oleic acid that an olive oil contains is an accurate measure of the oil’s acidity.

The proportion of free oleic acid 就不可能是an accurate measure of the oil’s acidity.

Agree 6.C. A is truly out of scope. no doubt about it. For D,  there may be some other acids in the oil but first, their proportions are constant, second, they may be so little, that can be  ignored.

If the statements above are all true, which of the following conclusions is best supported by them?

明确:此题要求承认 the statements above are all true, which of the following conclusions is best supported by them?

The quality of unrefined olive oil is not actually defined in terms of acidity,

接着,用“yet”提出了(就像阅读中,提出不同观点的标志词):extensive tests have shown that the less free oleic acid an unrefined olive oil contains per liter, the higher its quality  (我们可与看到这里主要是阐述“free oleic acid”和“its quality”的关系,那我们就会想了,这个“free oleic acid ”和开头提出的“acidity”有没有关系呢?

于是,我们就看到了“The proportion of free oleic acid that an olive oil contains is an accurate measure of the oil's acidity.”(这里说明油中proportion of free oleic acid 是油的“acidity”的“an accurate measure”,明确了不同观点中提出的“ free oleic acid ”和开头观点中的对象“acidity”的关系)

按照这个逻辑,我们可以看出题目中三个对象关系即: “free oleic acid ”充当了桥梁的作用,把题目中的另外两个对象“quality of an unrefined olive oil”和“ its acidity”联系起来了。

The quality of an unrefined olive oil can be determined only by accurately measuring its acidity

A.When an olive oil is refined, the concentration of oleic acid in the oil is reduced.

无法单纯由题目中陈述的内容推出来的,而且“refined”题目中也未涉及,另外,该选项也未涉及有关酸和质量的推论,所以排除;

C. If an unrefined olive oil is intermediate in acidity between two other unrefined olive oils, it will also be intermediate between them in quality.

The proportion of free oleic acid that an olive oil contains is an accurate measure of the oil's acidity.

D.Free oleic acid is the only acid that unrefined olive oil contains.

The proportion of free oleic acid that an olive oil contains is an accurate measure of the oil's acidity.

E. People who judge the quality of unrefined olive oils actually judge those oils  by their acidity, which the judges can taste.

该选项增加了跟题目推论无关的对象“people...acidity, which the judges can taste”所以最容易排除。

When an olive oil is refined, the concentration of other acid in the oil is reduced.

intermediate in acidity --> intermediate in FOA --> intermediate in quality.

对于unrefined olive oil是intermediate in FOA --> intermediate in quality

2.对于olive oil是intermediate in acidity --> intermediate in FOA

对于选项C是对于unrefined oil 是intermediate in acidity --> intermediate in quality

那么问题就是对于unrefined oil, 我们能推出intermediate in acidity --> intermediate in FOA 吗?

我原来对ONLY的理解是:仅仅通过精确测量acidity就可以决定The quality of an unrefined olive oil ,觉得没错呀;

The quality of an unrefined olive oil ,那就有问题了,因为完全可以不测量acidity而根据free oleic acid 的含量来决定。

选项A讲的是oleic acid(A. When an olive oil is refined, the concentration of oleic acid in the oil is reduced.), 而不是free oleic acid. When an olive oil is refined, the concentration of acids other than free oleic acid in the oil are reduced(FOA是否减少对解题并不重要).

The proportion of free oleic acid that an olive oil containsis is an accurate measure of the oil's acidity.

5.A recent poll found that over 80 percent of the residents of Nalmed Province favored a massive expansion of the commuter rail system as a means of significantly easing congestion on the province's highways and were willing to help pay for the expansion through an increase in their taxes. nevertheless, the poll results indicate that expansion of the rail system, if sucessfully completed, would be unlikely to achieve its goal of  easing congestion, because______
A. most people in favor of expanding the rail system reported less congestion during their highway commute as the primary benefit they would experience
B of the less than 20 percent of residents not counted as favoring the expansion, about half claimed to have no opinion one way or the other
C the twice-daily periods of peak congestion caused by people commuting in cars have grown from about an hour each to almost two and a half hours each in the past 20 years
D expanding the commuter rail system will require the construction of dozens of miles of new railbed
E the proposed expansion to commuter rail system will make it possible for some people who both live and work at suurban locations to commute by rail.
