My GPA from university is unfortunately very low (~70%, I studied in Canada with a degree in mechanical engineering, they don't use GPA there). Will this really weaken my application? Do you think I should write something about it in the optional essay? Or will a 700+ Gmat score help?

Thanks for all the informative answers. I'm a new comer to ChaseDream and noticed this thread yesterday. From what I've read here, it seems INSEAD is the right B-school for, but am I right for INSEAD? Please can you share your thoughts about my questions below?
1. My background: female, born in Fujian, moved to Shanghai at the age of 14, received bachelor degree (BSc in Biochemistry) from a top U in HK with a full scholarship, BSc in Biochemistry, GPA not very high - around 3.2, around 5 years working experience in Shanghai in market research (previously a global top 10 research firm, now a smaller French firm), English working environment, daily work involves dealing with international clients and help them understand Chinese consumers. With this background, do you think I stand a chance if I apply for INSEAD, based on your knowledge of INSEAD values and the applicant competition?
2. I want to switch to MC after graduation if I can get in, preferablly in US or Europe. I do not plan to stay in Europe/US for many years but I would love to spend 2-3 years there. It seems most Chinese INSEAD graduates finally come back to Asia and work in MC. Is it because they choose to or is it because it's generally difficult for Chinese people to get MC offer in Europe/US due to the culture difference? And if in 2-3 years I want to come back to China, would my MC experience in Europe/US be an advantage or disadvantage in your opinion?
3. About the 3rd language requirement, does Cantonese count?
4. I plan to apply for the September 2009 intake, how much time would you advise me to spend on the GMAT/TOEFL and the application? I just made my mind to pursue an MBA degree last week, so it's a long way to go for me.
Thanks a lot! And I appologize if some of the above questions have already been asked by someone else. This is a long thread, so I may have overlooked certain posts.
