Hi all INSEADers,

Thanks for all the informative answers. I'm a
new comer to ChaseDream and noticed this thread yesterday. From what
I've read here, it seems INSEAD is the right B-school for, but am I
right for INSEAD? Please can you share your thoughts about my questions
below?

1. My background: female, born in Fujian, moved to
Shanghai at the age of 14, received bachelor degree (BSc in
Biochemistry) from a top U in HK with a full scholarship, BSc in Biochemistry, GPA not very
high - around 3.2, around 5 years working experience in Shanghai in
market research (previously a global top 10 research firm, now a
smaller French firm), English working environment, daily work involves
dealing with international clients and help them understand Chinese
consumers. With this background, do you think I stand a chance if I
apply for INSEAD, based on your knowledge of INSEAD values and the
applicant competition?

2. I want to switch to MC after
graduation if I can get in, preferablly in US or Europe. I do not plan
to stay in Europe/US for many years but I would love to spend 2-3 years
there. It seems most Chinese INSEAD graduates finally come back to Asia
and work in MC. Is it because they choose to or is it because it's
generally difficult for Chinese people to get MC offer in Europe/US due
to the culture difference? And if in 2-3 years I want to come back to
China, would my MC experience in Europe/US be an advantage or
disadvantage in your opinion?

3. About the 3rd language requirement, does Cantonese count?

4.
I plan to apply for the September 2009 intake, how much time would you
advise me to spend on the GMAT/TOEFL and the application? I just made
my mind to pursue an MBA degree last week, so it's a long way to go for
me.

1, your chance is 0 if you don't try

2, for MC, frankly speaking, you'd better come back to China; that said, land a industry job in Europe is fairly easy (they pay no less, sometimes higher, than MC)

3, you wish!!!

4, get GMAT scrore asap, and then you'll have some idea about timing

I do plan to give it a try. May god bless me! Sorry I realized I asked a question that had already been asked by many others. As an application intender, I can understand why there are so many people who are obssessed with this "chance" question. INSEAD is a one of the top MBA schools in the world, so while everyone longs for being accepted, there is always this uncertainty and doubt if he/she is good enough. However this does not mean that he/she will spare any effort. This forum is called Chase Dream, a name I really like. Sometimes you know it is very hard, but you still fight foot and nail for it, even though you are unsure of the result. For this I think I speak for all who are currently applying or plan to apply for INSEAD. It is always good to have a proper assessment of the situation beforehand - always better to be prepared than not. So once again I thank you and all the other INSEADers for having been so diligently answering so many questions, repeatedly for some of them. We really really appreciate it!!

Haha...too bad Cantonese doesn't count. I guess I will have to learn a new language.

full time没有大区别。Internship也不是人人都作的。去年大概50%的人选择作实习。

具体到行业，Jan的申请投行有沾点便宜.不过timing还是最重要的，今年这个样子肯定是没什么大机会了。

How do you guys in Insead finance your MBA? Is it easy to get loan from Bank of China? and are there other specific channels to finance? Thanks a lot!

i think you are shanghainese or be selected in shanghai.i am now studyin in shanghai institute of foreign trade. we have to take 29 exams per term,so i think i can adjust to the life there easily.and i have a relatively high GPA,approximately 3.5.

i'am now preparin for my GMAT, i think it will be above 700.and one of my friends' girlfriends gonna 7 in ielts.so i think i can get higher marks.what's more, i've learnt francais at compus since 2 years ago.

i had so many experiences that can't be checked, eg: head of a student union across 5 universities,head of a regional radiostation,head of a forum with 100,000 registors, head of a translator union tied to MIT in US ,and head of a co-operative team in the finance case analysis contest( finally and luckily we got awards),etc.but my ability can be proved in daily communication.

but as you may know, my weakpoint is that i have no work experience,maybe i can do some internships to cover it ? or i have to got an formal job? (i heard someone succeed without work experience, her gmat is 770 and gpa is 3,4)

and i've also heared that nearly every student there covers his or her tuition fee and living expense through loan, if i have no aquaintance in America, how can i get so other loans?
