以下是引用Begood在2004-11-14 2:20:00的发言: Chicago的中国学生找工作情况如何?明年5月毕业的中国人,大概多少已经有offer了?能简单谈谈吗?
The job situation this year is much better than last year, especially in banking and consulting, which happen to be Chicago Chinese students' top choices. The official figure from our career services office is that the number of on-campus interview opportunities (all job functions) have increased by 30% something compared to the same time last year. (I must remind those who want to land "corporate jobs", i.e. non-banking or consulting jobs in large companies, that such opportunities are quite limited for international students, as these companies have shrunk their work permit quota significantly after 911. However, some high-tech and pharmaceutical companies do have open positions.)
We have around 30 Chinese (mainland background, including those with US permanent residence) in the 2nd year class. A large proportion of them have got offer from their summer employers, but most are still interviewing for full-time jobs to give themselves a wider range of choices.
As for internship opportunities this year, the companies have just begun to reach out to 1st years through formal presentations. As required by the school, they cannot contact 1st years before the mid-term exams (which was about 2 weeks ago). So far as I know, most of my classmates are busy attending all kinds of on- and off-campus recruiting activities now. --You can tell this from their daily dress code: many are seen in formal business suits everyday... However, the internship interviews won't start until next quarter (January 2005).
I must mention here that our career services office is doing a fantastic job: They provide weekly job search and internship preparation seminars, with topics ranging from functional resume/cover letter writing, recruiter contacting, alumni liaison, mock interviews, to spoken English practice for international students. And there are as many career coaches (career service officers) and career advisors (2nd year students who volunteer to provide one-on-one informative sessions) as you would ever need, to help you individually on whatever problem you have during the job search process.
Besides, there are numerous student groups that organize interactive career events, to make your schedule full. To name a few, the Marketing Group holds weekly "Lunch and Learn" sessions for members and non-members, during which professionals (often GSB alums) give presentations on marketing in different industries and how to prepare yourselves for the function. The past Saturday Management Consulting Group invited new and mid-career consultants from major firms to conduct specific panel discussions on "Shifting Career", "A Day in the Life" and "Interview & Recruiting". And my fellow students interested in i-banking just had two days of intensive one-on-one training and evaluation conducted by 2nd years and industry insiders...and the list goes on. These events are valuable chances to know the industries and firms of your interest, before deciding on which one(s) to pursue.
