Thanks for your attendance. I want to make sure that Duke is the one that I will feel comfortable if admitted and the one that likes me. My quick questions is as follows:
1. I have been working in an environment with intense compitition in a investment bank, that's why I choose to change to some teamwork school like duke. How's the collaboration carried out in Duke, through some kind of learning team like that in Wharton, or just because that people admitted here is more nice and warm hearted than average applicants?
You will be assigned to a study group consisting 4-5 students. For each course, many team assigments and in-class practice will be finished by your study group. Each team member will receive the same score for the team assignments. But not everything is done in team.
You are right, just like companies, culture has the function of "selection". So, the students applied to and admitted by Fuqua are more of a "team" style. That's why I feel every fellow students here are very nice and open. So are the Chinese students.
2. It is well known that Duke is good towards Chinese applicants. How much of Chinese students were admitted with Scholarships? Any other aspects that show the goodwill Duke have for Chinese students?
Among 410 students in class of 2006, there are about 30 Chinese students. About 20 directly come from mainland China.
No reliable statistics about scholarship among Chinese students. As you know, this is kind of privacy. But I think at least 5 Chinese students received merit-based scholarship up to more than $20000.
Fuqua does offer full-tuition waiver to internationals. A Korean student got it this year. Wish Chinese students can get it next year.
3. I would like to work in big cities in the north US or west coasts. Duke may not be advantages compared to other school. So I would like to know except for the job fairs on compus, is there any regular events organized by the school that can introduce the students to big name employer in NY,,Boston or L.A? Or students will have to make the way all by their personal efforts?
Of course Fuqua will not rely on the students themselves to find jobs. It's a small world, you study in North Carolina does not mean that you cannot work in NYC or Boston.
But if working in NY or Boston is really important for you, don't forget to apply NYU, Columbia, HBS, MIT or Boston College.
Thanks a lot in advance for you guys who take time to reply to my questions. I have not known any admitted students in Duke, but It is the admission officer at the MBA tour fair in Shanghai that left me good impression. Wish to talk to you guys later if it is convenient for you.
That's part of the Fuqua culture. Everybody is nice and kind. No arrogance.
Regards,
