Although the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same, the

death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

Although the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the rate in United States are about the same,

at about the same rate 作状语。

the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same

When you use really in front of an adjective or adverb, it has a similar meaning to `very'. Note that you can say either `Gilbert is really clever' or `Gilbert really is clever'. The meaning is almost the same. In both cases you are saying that Gilbert is very clever, but when you say `Gilbert really is clever', you are expressing surprise that Gilbert is clever, or trying to convince someone else that he is. (Collins COBUILD usage)

if compared to this example....

Q34:

Although people in France consume fatty foods at a rate comparable to the United States, their death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

  1. people in France consume fatty foods at a rate comparable to the United States, their
  2. people in France and the United States consume fatty foods at about the same rate, the
  3. fatty foods are consumed by people in France at a comparable rate to the United States’s, their
  4. the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same, the
  5. the rate of people consuming fatty foods is about the same in France and the United States, the

D是不是还有这个歧义?:(the rate of fatty foods) consumed ,consumed 修饰 the rate?

D. the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same, the

看D,  一个 rate 怎么能 is about the same 呢?

  1. the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same, the(前分句前后可比且从句之间非常平行)

should be changed as :

  1. the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and that of the United States are about the same, the

would be more reasonable .

D 中的 "is" 不对, 应为 "are".

A and B is the same. (wrong)

A and B are the same. (correct)

我原先选的E,但是,THE same and, 是不对的,这里的same可以解释成代词么?请指教

GWD-1-Q34:

Although people in France consume fatty foods at a rate comparable to the United States, their death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

  1. people in France consume fatty foods at a rate comparable to the United States, their
  2. people in France and the United States consume fatty foods at about the same rate, the
  3. fatty foods are consumed by people in France at a comparable rate to the United States’s, their
  4. the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same, the
  5. the rate of people consuming fatty foods is about the same in France and the United States, the

A. 比较不对称, 应是 people in France consume fatty foods at a rate comparable to that in the United States, their

比较也不对称,应用that 而不是所有格来指代the rate; 3. their指代fatty foods,显然

   不对

D.the rate of fatty foods is about the same不符合逻辑, consumed 做定语修饰fatty foods

E.比较意思不搭配且不对称,即用the same ... as ...而不是the same...and..., 应改为 the rate of people consuming fatty foods is about the same in France as in the United States, the

B: in France and the United States既可以修饰people做定语,又可以修饰comsume做状语
