此题我一开始也选了D，看了这里的讨论仍未得满意解。后来，仔细看了看原句，我想还是B对，D错了。原因如下：

*把D代入句中：Although the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same, the

death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

“虽然（法国和美国的）消费的肥肉速率是相同的，法国的死率却更低！”

读起来好像没有问题，但细想就有问题了……

如果换你自己思维来表达前半分句，你会如何表达？我会这样写：

Although the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the rate in United States are about the same,

对比这一句和D，我想你应该可以看出来这里的差别了。再看我在翻译中表明的“（法国和美国的）”

而B则没有这个问题：

at about the same rate 作状语。

推论：

不能依靠翻译过来后读起来没有问题的句子，在英语的环境下思考。

我想不選D的理由, 應該是在前面的"the rate of fatty foods consumed "與後面的"death rates from heart disease"

單複數無法相比吧.

既然是兩個不同的國家有不同的心臟病死亡率, 則"the rate of fatty foods consumed"是否也應該用複數?

我认为选项(B)的verbal logic不正确
因为(B)中吃fatty food的速率跟death rates from heart disease我读起来并没有contrast的意涵

从句意的合理性来看，似乎只有选项(E)体现了"although"的逻辑意义

不过，你所质疑的用法，如果我没理解错误的话，以下的例子不知可否作为说明

Nothing wrong with the last sentense since the the proportion is uniform in all limestone.  

But this sentense is totally different with the one we discussed.  In that sentense, there should be two rates, on in france , another in US.   Only by that way, one rate can be about the same to another, or , the rates are about the same.
