此题我一开始也选了D，看了这里的讨论仍未得满意解。后来，仔细看了看原句，我想还是B对，D错了。原因如下：

*把D代入句中：Although the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the United States is about the same, the

death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

“虽然（法国和美国的）消费的肥肉速率是相同的，法国的死率却更低！”

读起来好像没有问题，但细想就有问题了……

如果换你自己思维来表达前半分句，你会如何表达？我会这样写：

Although the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and the rate in United States are about the same,

对比这一句和D，我想你应该可以看出来这里的差别了。再看我在翻译中表明的“（法国和美国的）”

而B则没有这个问题：

at about the same rate 作状语。

推论：

不能依靠翻译过来后读起来没有问题的句子，在英语的环境下思考。

death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

“虽然（法国和美国的）消费的肥肉速率是相同的，法国的死率却更低！”

我觉得这个解释很正确，D其实犯了一个平行对称的错误，应该改为"and in the united States"这样才符合逻辑，不然就是rate与united states作比较了

我也同意这样的解释.

原句A强调people consume fatty foods at a same rate。
            People是主要的强调对象，后面的the death rates from heart disease是说前面people的。而D中，强调the rate. 改变句子意思，后面的the death rates from heart disease就没有所指了。E中，the rate 是指 people 还是 consuming fatty foods不清楚，会有歧义。

我觉得还是要从逻辑意思上去把握

DE中  the rate of 只是个介词短语

后面接的是复杂的那么复杂的成分
