B正确应该无异议了。问另外一个问题，

Although  people in France and the United States consume fatty foods at about the same rate, 
    the death rates from heart disease are far lower in France.

这句话的后半句是不是如下才对呢：

the death rate in France is far lower than that in US.

觉得the death rates ....are ...前面是复数，后面跟的却是一个国家，有点怪怪的感觉？

会不会逻辑错误呢？在法国，两国（因为是复数）源于心脏病的死亡率都很低。感觉逻辑不对？

我认之所有有的时候用单数，有的时候用复数，要根据不同的词来决定，比如你的例子中是meaning，这是一个抽象的词，他可以表示用单数表示出意思不一样，而rate应该是个具有实际意义的词，所不能说美国的rate和法国的rate是同一个rate，用单数就不能表达出这个意思了，不知道我的解释你能不能明白呢

單複數無法相比吧.

既然是兩個不同的國家有不同的心臟病死亡率, 則"the rate of fatty foods consumed"是否也應該用複數?

D选项最不应该把 people去掉，因为原文意思是比较两个国家人消耗 fatty foods的速度，而不是比较两个国家消耗的速度，这两个概念的范围不同，改变了原文的意思。

D错在
        用了过去式。且改变了原句的重心.

其实我同意前面NN说的

这里的rate 是指consume的rate，不可能是food后者people的rate

D从语法上不错，但让我选还是B。原句中句子重心是people consume,D 则是强调了rate。此种例子不少见。
