突然想到一个问题,本题比较从句的主语和谓语跟主句都是一样的,那么是否需要省略呢?也就是说没有they do也可以? 还是说如果省略了they do,就不知道到底是they have to know now还是they know now了?

support! 我觉得是因为they now know了，而不是have to或者would have to，所以要补出。

同意楼上的.就是说,如果在主句主语和分句主语一致,但是时态不一致的时候,要补出主语和不同的谓语的助动词,这样才不会有逻辑上的荒谬.

我问了他三个问题“i have three questions about this sentence,
1st, why the word "would" must be added ,is it some kind of subjunctive mood?
2nd,"economial " means cheap or money-saving?
3rd,why "they do" after "more than" can not be omitted?”

他说“if you say know more，then you have to follow with what you know more about，so you can put know more about ? than they do know”

“and they must be addressed again with "they do now" otherwise the sentence is incomplete”

“as an adjictive it can be used in relation to economy like in "aspects of social, political, and economical life"

"they do must be added to complete the mention of demographers"

economical肯定不合适，这个词强调的是节约，合算的意思，跟social不能并列

我认为they do是可以省略的，在不影响理解的情况下，是应该省略的。参考og198题

在前面综合解释的时候说：如果用从句，就应该用过去完成时。

后面解释正式选项的E时，说Choice D and E wisely dispense with the full clause and use a simple prepositional phrase.(但是D有因为。。。。错了，所以选E)

可见即使前后时态不同，也是可以省略后面从句的主谓的，只要主语一致。

Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than for any previous campaign, it had provisons for only twenty-four days.

我觉得这里的for any previous campaign就和本题的now是同等性质的。

would 為何要補出,不知跟假設語氣有沒有關係.(因為句首有個To...)

不要忘了助词补出的基本原则：“能补就补”

补肯定比不补好，使原文更清晰。

而would的用法，虽然考法奇怪（OG未见），但也有理可循。

则C,D之间选择，必选economic。

【讨论】关于economic 和economical

翻阅了不少字典，economical除了节俭的意思之外，也有“＝economic”这层意思。而且如果跟social, political之类的放在一起感觉好看不少

不过当我尝试google "social, political, and economical life"的时候，google同学问我

Did you mean: social, political, and economic life  

这里也许已经超出了咬文嚼字的范畴了。。。。 应该遵循语言习惯？
