有economical的肯定错，economical的意思是using money, time, goods etc carefully and without wasting any ，在这里逻辑意思明显不对。而且这个肯定是一个考点，而并非有人说和economic没什么区别

1) economic和economical绝非考点，OG曾经也有一道以这两个词来迷惑我的考题。

2) 同意大家对这里应该用would的看法（对应now）

3）我选E的关键：

   我认为这里的more than根本是在迷惑人

   have to know (a great deal more than) (now) about the social and economical determinants

     a great deal修饰more, have to know more than about the social and economical determinants，请问这一句有什么漏洞吗？应该没有吧？

     D才有漏洞，如果是比较级考点，正确的应该是这样：have to know about a great deal more than now they do about the social and economical determinants

    D怎可多出后面这个about或少了前面这个about呢？这怎么对呢？

    看了整个讨论过程，觉得好像不太对劲！

Sorry, 我必须作一下更正，答案为A：

“1) economic和economical绝非考点”的说法有点错。

当然，我还是认为无需死记economic和economical的词义区别，关键在于本题中的social and economic，如大全832

832. The supply of oil being finite has become an economical and political consideration of the first magnitude for all modern industrial nations.

(A) The supply of oil being finite has become an economical

(B) The finite supply of oil has become an economical

(C) That the supply of oil is finite has become an economical

(D) The supply of oil being finite has become an economic（E）

(E) That the supply of oil is finite has become an economic

这里考的是economic和political的搭配，当然social也应与economic搭配

However，我还是认为本题不存在比较级，只有A和D用了economic，

D为比较级句子，继而我也不再认为would与now的对应是关键，

所以答案为A

用whould,是因为表示一种虚拟语气.也就是说,"应该知道的更多",但事实却是现在知道的没这么多.

1、我不否认more than有可能做副词使用，但是这里应该还是比较，否则now的出现很难理解。另外now的位置不必要像MM的标示必须在动词前，因为now本身的位置就有很多。

2、关于a great deal修饰more我个人意见认为值得商榷，a great deal应该是形容词，more形容词和副词均可。我比较倾向于more 修饰a great deal，而且a great deal 没加of ＋Noun，隐含省略了know的对象。

3、关于比较的介词补足，MM可能没考虑清楚，这里其实只是比较时间状语，而不是介宾短语比较。a great deal （of sth）about the social and economic。

4、关于they do的补足，我个人认为have to know的核心动作还是know，have to虽然是一个动词词组（也就是大家说的实义动词），但我认为have to 真正有实义的只是后面带的动词，所以补足部分的do应该理解为know。至于为什么要补足they do，我觉得是因为比较前部分是有虚拟意味的谓语would have to，但是比较后部分却只是要表达实际应该的know，谓语部分实际上已经改变了和主句的谓语不同，所以they do必须补出。
