satancn> It is not only acceptable, in my mind the adcom will benefit from more context learning why you have the goals you have (hence, 'why you are committed to these goals', which is a question they ask).

你好,请问Wharton的面试是adcom进行的吗?还是校友面试?
如果是校友面试,请问是否可以选择面试对象?是否可以要求adcom不把我的essay提供给校友?我比较喜欢blind interview。。

Hi Jason,

It's really impressive to see all your insightful and logical replies here, thanks!

Could you kindly introduce some resources in Wharton about consumer products or retail?  Anything about related courses/electives, faculty who are experienced in this industry, projects, clubs, activities...are highly helpful.  Thanks a lot!

I am passionate in this industry and want to pursue a general management role upon graduation in it, while I could only find a club called Fasion & Luxury Industries Club which is a bit related to what I am intrested.

Thanks again!

xiaohuzi> All Wharton interviews are blind interviews. If a member of the adcom interviews you, that particular adcom member would not have read your application. You have a choice of alumni, but that also depends on their availability. So it doesn't mean you'll definitely be able to schedule an interview with an alumni that you prefer. The 'choice' is given to you in case different alumni cannot fit you into their schedule.

carrielych> The marketing club is another club that frequently caters to people who want to go into such industries. Aside from clubs, courses/electives tend to be functional rather than industry focused. So it may be a good idea to think about what you want to do within these industries (finance? strategy? operations?) and look at relevant ways to achieve that aim. Indeed, recruiting also tends to follow this trend. So you'll often see an advertisement for a financial position in a certain industry require 'banking or relevant finance experience', rather than necessarily experience in that industry.

Hi Jason -- this is a question relating to Fellowship Essay.  One of them is asking "Are there any particular fellowships for which you believe yourself to be a good candidate or other additional information you wish to provide the fellowship committee? "  As i found most of available are aiming special group,i.e. woman, middle east, or maxico....May i have your thought which kind of fellowship in Wharton is suitable to male student from China mainland?

Tks!

You'll have to do your own research on what fellowships are available- these change every year.

Wharton optional essay: If you feel there are extenuating circumstances of which the Committee
should be aware, please explain them here (e.g., unexplained gaps in
work experience, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable
academic performance, significant weaknesses in your application).

optional essay 通常可以解释不好的地方, 也可以写好的地方吧?
可是看这个说明,好象就要你解释WEAKNESS, 能不能在OPTIONAL ESSAY写Strong的地方,其他ESSAY里没有的? Thanks a lot.

Hi, Jason.

I asked you once
about the college senior candidate. Thank you for your answers, I am currently
writing my essays in a balance to give my full exposure to the admission officer.
There is another question about the GMAT and the difference between Round 1 and
Round 2. On the GMAT I only scored 680 (lower than the median of the class
profile). If I take the GMAT one more time to get a higher score, I will miss
the deadline of the Round 1 of Wharton and submit my application for Round 2.

But from I heard,
most business school release more offers in Round 1 to the applicant than Round
2, which means the applicant gets more chances to be admitted. Is this true for
Wharton? Then I am not sure in order to have better chance to be admitted by
Wharton whether should I use the GMAT 680 to catch the Round 1 or should I get
a higher GMAT score and apply for Round 2? What’s your suggestion?

Thank you very
much! Btw, if you don’t mind, could you give me your email address to have a
more direct contact with you?

Nathan

littlewoman> This essay allows only for 'extenuating circumstances'- not for strengths.

Nathan> Business schools release more offers in Round 1 because the better prepared applicants tend to apply in Round 1. Put another way, since more prepared candidates applied in Round 1, and everyone else applied in Round 2, wouldn't it be natural that more offers are given in Round 1- not because Round 1 is easier, but because the more prepared applicants are applying there?

In Wharton (and with most other business schools), Round 1 and Round 2 has no difference in chances. That's why we have the waitlist. If we're not sure if you're good enough, we waitlist you, and reevaluate you against Round 2 applicants later.

So apply when you are most ready. That will give you the best chance of admission. It sounds like you think that's Round 2, so I will apply in Round 2.

I take questions here so everyone can benefit, so I ask that you pose questions here instead of emailing me. Thanks!
