Editorial:An arrest made by a Midville police officer is provisional until the officer has taken the suspect to the police station and the watch commander has officially approved the arrest. Such approval is denied if the commander judges that the evidence on which the provisional arrest is based is insufficient. A government efficiency expert has found that almost all provisional arrests meet standards for adequacy of evidence that watch commanders enforce. The expert therefore recommends that the watch commander's approval should no longer be required since the officers' time spent obtaining approval is largely wasted. This recommendation should be rejected as dangerous, however, since there is no assurance that the watch commanders' standards will continue to be observed once approval is no longer required.

In the editorial, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?

1. GWD-10-Q17:Boldface

Editorial:

An arrest made by a Midville police officer is provisional until the officer has taken the suspect to the police station and the watch commander has officially approved the arrest. Such approval is denied if the commander judges that the evidence on which the provisional arrest is based is insufficient. A government efficiency expert has found that almost all provisional arrests meet standards for adequacy of evidence that watch commanders enforce. The expert therefore recommends that the watch commander’s approval should no longer be required since the officers’ time spent obtaining approval is largely wasted. This recommendation should be rejected as dangerous, however, since there is no assurance that the watch commanders’ standards will continue to be observed once approval is no longer required.

In the editorial, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?

 A. The first is a recommendation made by the editorial; the second acknowledges a potential objection against that recommendation.

B. The first is a proposal against which the editorial is directed; the second is a judgment reached by the editorial concerning that proposal.

C. The first provides evidence in support of a recommendation that the editorial supports; the second is the conclusion reached by the editorial.

D. The first is a position that the editorial challenges; the second is a judgment that was made in support of that challenged position.

E. The first is a recommendation that the editorial questions; the second provides evidence against that recommendation.

The first is a position that the editorial seeks to oppose; The second is the position that the editorial seeks to establish.

有其他迷惑选项,比如promote more than one employee in one department to become the heads of department

A) Price B) availability C) …. D) Value as clue for unsolved puzzle E) literature referent

有一个选项说 most likely account for factual life of the author 之类的

还有的说什么 one of the  reasons that readers believe the life of 简爱主人公和作者的生活轨迹是一样的,忘了选什么了。。

1)Urban migration can help latin women to increase their status

Latin womenstatus higher than the men at the same class

1)full disagreement

2)offer cautious dissent given special cases studied

3)tentative support under certain circumstantial evidences

4)fully concurred

intelligent and energetic utili-zation of the resources available to them.

GWD

Q27

The passage suggests that which of the following best compares the economic concerns of women with those of men toward the close of the eighteenth Century in colonial Connecticut?

(A)               Both men and women had more economic responsibilities at the end of the century than they had had at the beginning of the century.

(B)                Women’s economic activities had become less varied by the end of the century; men’s economic activities had become more varied.

(C)                Women’s economic activities at the end of the century were similar to their activities at the beginning; men’s economic activities changed considerably.

(D)                Women’s economic concerns at the end of the century were primarily familial; men’s economic concerns were primarily political.

(E)                 Women’s economic concerns at the end of the century were primarily personal; men’s economic needs were primarily familial.

SC

1.原题

GWD11-28

In an effort to reduce the number of fires started by cigarettes, a major tobacco company is test-marketing a cigarette in which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, thereby slowing the rate at which it burns and lowering the heat it generates.

  1. in which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, thereby slowing

  2. in which they use thin layers of extra paper in decreasing the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, which slows

  3. that uses thin layers of extra paper to decrease the amount of oxygen when it enters the cigarette, thereby slowing

  4. for which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen that enters the cigarette, and thereby slowing

  5. using thin layers of extra paper in decreasing the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, which slows

2. A Scientific tour 什么什么,然后跟一个人的名字D ****’s 什么的展廊会这类的took us around……..  the museum 这类的。。。

3.Once the government of United States and Mali 通过一个什么合作协议(好像是联手控制贩卖什么东西的协议)the open market of 某种商品(或者是走私倒卖的一类东西)immediately ceased.

its open market,

therefore its open market

the open market

我就选了the open market, 因为its找不到指代,once.. therefore也不对

4. Given ******* and ********* (这里大概讲的是金融业市场的某种情况拉),paradigm on which many banks settled has come to involve, at its core, risk management.

On which many banks settled has come to involve, at their

Of which many banks settled has come to involve, at its

Many banks have settled has come to involve, at its

5.After training, volunteers of 某某公司A are dispatched to …., …, and …., where they work as ……..

6.Customer bills of  …………….(好像是经过连续几个月的增长),surprisingly cut back their shopping, in April posting a decline in the first month of ….. since the Christmas season started

7.Houston, f****ed  with 什么高楼大厦,公路阿这类的基建, has long worn ……….

8.********,the general recommended that those who ……. be licensed and law prohibiting the sales to be enacted.

注意law prohibiting这一块,刚开始我还以为是prohibit… to do sth,因为这个形式是错误的,仔细一看原来是prohibit the sales to…….

the owner work hard for…
