299. 向后集成
P1 - Mfgs who need reliable sources of materials and technologically advanced components face an increasingly difficult choice between owning the items(known as BI) and buying from independent producers.
Those who integrate may reap ST rewards but restrict the furture capacity for innovation.
P2 - BI removes the need for some purchasing and marketing functions and helps utilize the resources.
Where components are CMMDs, BI boosts profits.
However BI may entail a risk for technologically active company.
P3 - The company can lock itself into an outdated technology.
- Other suppliers may be unwilling to share innovations.
- Its ability to assemble the components may be compromised.
=> Long-term contrats w/ suppliers can achieve many of the same cost benefits as backward integration w/o compromising a company's ability to innovate.
P4 - Moving away from BI is not a complete solution either. The huge investment in developing innovative technologies threaten the LT financial stability of the firms. Assemblers are forced to integrate the suppliers to keep their suppliers in business.
