University of Chicago GSB adopted some new rules for the full-time MBA admission&application:

1.  Interviews by invitation only
We’re making a change to our interview process moving to interview by invitation only.  Once you have applied, you will be notified if you have been invited to interview.

2. TOEFL/IELTS: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required of international applicants whose native language is not English. However, an applicant is eligible for a waiver of the TOEFL/IELTS requirement if he/she has earned an undergraduate degree or post-graduate degree in a country where English is an official language or from an institution in which English is the language of instruction; applicants must provide evidence to support the waiver.

Hi MachineGun,

Thanks a lot for your kindness to help people here.

Here is my background and thoughts, your comments are very highly appreciated:

保送国内一流大学,计算机系,第二学位应用数学(混的那种)。GPA很差,很多都是60多。(没办法,学校对保送生要求特高,而且当初没下苦功夫学。)

出来在一个外企作SAP的consultant,半年后去了新加坡,但是有official certificate of SAP consultant。

新加坡国立大学computer school, Master by research, 2 year, 做supply chain management, 但是很学术化的.

CFA LEVEL 1。

I am very good at understanding the situation and identify the paint point. I believe a MBA program will tremedously enhance my ability to make a better business decision

I believe I can contribute lots of diversity and I am very very clear about what I would like to get from a MBA program: The ability of making and/or differentiating financially sound business decisions from those lousy ones.

This ability will be critical for me to become an excellent consultant and/or investor(that's why I took CFA).

The reason I am interested in chicago GSB is your emphasis on Finance. From my experiences, every single business decision has to be based on financial impact, eventually.

How do you think about my case?

Sorry for the long list and thanks a lot in advance.

Hi MachineGun!

I am an applicant with plain background: accounting major in Xiamen Univerisy, 3-year working experience in one of "Big Four". But I do determine to change. I have interest in consulting instead of auditing, though I have confidence on doing a good job in both fileds.

I am not sure whether Chicago - such a high-ranking business can be one of my option. I am wondering whether adcom of Chicago have some interest in applications with accounting backgound.

Hi, IDAISY

Chicago GSB encourages early application. And from my personal experience and knowledge, most of applicants in the first round are from investment banking and consulting industry.

However, the two first round admits (from Beijing)  last year are from government background and IT background.

My suggestion is: you may apply as many as schools in each round if you like, but concentrate more on one (or two) schools in each round. And your odds will be better.

Good luck!

Hi Xiaoqiuqiu,

1. You have been working in a very diversified enrionment for many years, an advantage that will dilute your low GPA. Dont worry about it. Chicago GSB will look at the whole picture, that is why a single disadvantage will not devastate your application.

2. I do think that you planned your career path in a very healthy way. Practical working experience are extremely important, and your experience in that front will be definitely enriched once you get in a b-school, such as Chicago GSB. The education will make more business-wised. The future improvement is there.

3. You choose finance as your future concentration. Good choice. What I want to say is that you should correlate all your experiences, piece by piece, and make them a complete story, which logically leads to your future career goal. Your colorful experiences might be your pros or cons. I think you can understand.

4. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask in this thread.

Good luck!

thank you. my question is whether chicago treats differently the first and the second round. I understand chance for first two rounds are no different for some schools such as h, w, s, but for other schools such as sloan and nyu, first round will be much better than the second round.
