Leojin,
Chicago GSB is probably the right choice for you if you are interested in Economics/Finance related courses, or want to go in depth in these concentrations for your MBA. As you mentioned, Chicago GSB is the first and only business school to have had six Nobel Prize-winning faculty members. Other distinguished figures are also authoritative theoreticians in the community of economist.
The flexible curriculum arrangement is probably another factor which attracted many applicants. Among 21 course you will finish to be qualified to graduate, there is only one compulsory course, which means you will have great freedom to choose the courses, in which you are most interested, or say, which you most need to prepare for your post-graduate career.
What I want you to know is my personal experience and impressions about the school, though I have not been there:
Chicago GSB does care you and really wants you to come if you are admitted. The people there, adcom people or first/second year students, do consider you a member of the big family. They will call you or email you, voluntarily offering advice and providing information, which makes the school unresistable.
Most top-tier school have their own advantages and speciality. When you start your own application, try to dig out more about your dream school. When you find the match between you and Chicago GSB, do you best to apply and the school will justify your decision.
Good luck!
