The University of Chicago MBA 2007 taking questions

Hi Machinegun,

我打算现在开始申请学校，想申请CGB。我的经验主要实在International Business上，做了多年的海外市场,所以也想在这方面继续发展。有一个问题(可能比较弱……)：

CGB的特长到底是FINANCE还是INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS？因为看了前面这么多内容印象是finance很强，但CGB的网站上又特别强调international business。。。

还有如果选择CGB攻International business，毕业后工作前景如何？

Hi azmi,

No doubt that Chicago GSB is extremely renown for its finance education. From IB bank website, you will see that all the division of each IB bank come here for campus recruitment, compared with some other business school, at which IB bank only have partial presence.

International business here is another feature of Chicago GSB,  because of its success of its IMBA program. You should apply as other people do, and apply the IMBA program when you are here in chicago. The prerequisite of this program is fluence of another foreign language, if I recall right. The school has sent us first year students about the deadline of application for that.

If you are really interested in that program, you could ask for the IMBA brochure. I had one last year. You could also consult people in the MBA forum or other relevant promotion events. By the way, you should go through the GSB website for more detailed information.

Your international experience will certainly be your advantage. Emphasize that part of your story to distinguish yourself.

According to your understanding, is there any significant difference between the first-round application and the second-round application?

Hi cheeyong,

In my opinion, I dont see any differences between the first two rounds. As to the third round, the chance is small. If you want more authoritative answer, you could contact the adcom office.

Hi machinegun,

I am reserching for B-schools and interested in Chicago GSB. Since my case is somewhat unique: 15 year working experiences-5 year in the Great Wall Computer Group as a project manager, 1 year in a Hong Kong company as a sales manager, and the left years as an entrepreur owning a company with 20 employees in IT industry, I think that my long working experiences may work against me in the process of application for some schools, which might have preference to enrol younger applicants. Could you make some comments or give me some suggestions, if possible, to my background in terms of the fitness of GSB's requirements.

Additional info: GMAT: 750, TOEFL 623 (66/61/60), BS- major: computer science

Hi jade_lee,

I have to say that your background is unique. However, the door of GSB is open to everyone who has great ambition to be the leader in the business world and has a fit to the school.

The second part, fit, is obviously what you should explain when you apply. You have worked for 15 years in various fields and you have your own business. Why MBA and why GSB is what you should answer. The school want to recruit the people who have very clear career goal and who could get the most from the school to be successful. If you could give the adcom people a satisfying answer to those two questions, you will have trouble getting admitted.

Age is a factor I have to say, but not that important as a determining factor. Everyone has a life story. Your odds depends on your story.

By the way, your GMAT and TOEFL score is excellent. Concentrate on your fit story...

About 12 people are from mainland China. We have very diversified backgrounds, such as investment banking, consulting, accounting, brand management, entertainment, IT and government. Hope this helps.
