FIRST YEAR MOCK INTERVIEW WEEK - UPDATES!
Up to 32 New Mock Interviews and 2nd Session with Microsoft Speaker Available in ICON!
16 new slots for Johnson&Johnson-CPC are now up in ICON.   ending final confirmation, we will most likely be adding 16 slots for Ethicon Endo Surgery on Monday. Both of these companies are expected to be here Friday 11/12 and Saturday 11/13.
Kristin Buzun of Microsoft has generously agreed add a second session of her presentation. "How to Get Hired" will now run Monday 11/8 AND Tuesday 11/9 from 5 to 6 pm. Right now the Monday session is over-enrolled. If you are indifferent between the two, please consider switching to the Tuesday session. Signup is in ICON under SIPS. This event is open to both FYs and SYs. Given the short notice of this change, signups for these 2 sessions will remain open for changes until 1PM the day of the event. Check out the "Students" section of the FYMI website to read her article on the topic.
A reminder that if you sign up, you must show up. Sign-ups for interviews will remain open until 1 PM the day before the interview. For that reason, nobody should miss an interview.   lease arrive 15 minutes ahead of your interview to sign in. The sign in table will be set up in the Admissions Lobby.
Due to the heavy demand for interviews, we do not expect to be able to offer more than one interview per student. If there are open slots at the time a schedule is about to close (1PM the day before), we will send out e-mails at that time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Now accepting applications for graduate and professional student Young Trustee
It is time to elect a Young Trustee to represent the graduate and professional student body. The position of Young Trustee is both a privilege and an honor, not only for the student elected to the position, but for the entire graduate and professional student population. The position represents an unparalleled opportunity to become involved in the decision making process of the university by serving on its highest governing body, the Board of Trustees. The young trustee will serve for two years, one as an observer in which they will not be allowed to vote, and the second as a full voting member of the Board.
All current graduate and professional students are eligible to run for the position of Young Trustee. However, we strongly encourage those students in the final year of their program to apply, as they have the most familiarity with the administration of the university and the concerns faced by the graduate and professional student body.
The url below provides a link to the online application and information on the application process - copy it into your browser in order to begin the process. All applications are due January 13th, 2005.

2005 University of San Francisco Pacific Specialty Insurance International Business Plan Competition
We are delighted to invite your graduate students to submit proposals to compete in the 2005 University of San Francisco Pacific Specialty Insurance International Business Plan Competition.
The USF PSI International Business Plan Competition is one of the World's Premier Graduate University Business Plan Competitions. The 2005 Contest will be held March 9 - 12. All Graduate Students from every nation are invited to submit business plan proposals for participation.
Total Cash Prizes and Scholarships for the 2005 Competition will total approximately $25,000; however, the real prize is the chance for your students to offer their business proposals before Leading Silicon Valley Venture Capitalists and Chief Executives. Judges from our previous competitions have included venture capital partners with: Benchmark Capital, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, Garage Technology Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, and many more (as noted in the USF Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist Confidence Index as featured on CNBC - http://www.usfca.edu/sobam/nvc/cindex_3_2004.htm.)
As the only University Business Plan Competition in Silicon Valley open to complete Graduate teams from other universities, the USF Competition provides a unique entrepreneurial opportunity for all graduate students. We invite currently enrolled Graduate students to submit a 5 - 7 page executive summary of their business plans by email attachment by January 25, 2005 for full consideration. Submissions should be emailed to the contest executive director: Professor Mark Cannice (Cannice@usfca.edu).
Full contest information is at: http://www.BusinessPlanCompetition.org <http://www.businessplancompetition.org/>
The Rice University Business Plan Competition is accepting registrations for its 2005 intercollegiate contest, scheduled for April 7-9, 2005. The deadline for submitting an "Intent to Compete" is February 4, 2005. In only its fifth year, the Rice Business Plan Competition has become one of the premier new venture business plan competitions in the world. Register <http://www.alliance.rice.edu/Forms.asp?MODE=NEW&Forms_FormTypeID=-3&SnI D=144643394> Online.
Here are only three reasons why you should consider sending a team:
Start-up Funding
We will award $70,000 in cash in 2005, almost double the prior year, plus $30,000 of in-kind services. The Grand Prize team will take home $20,000 cash, plus a comprehensive package of services including free office space, web site & hosting services, and free roundtrip air travel on Continental Airlines. The winner will also qualify to compete for $100,000 at the MOOT CORPR competition.
Judging Panel
The RBPC has the largest judging panel of any competition. Over 100 judges are hand-picked to participate in the three-day event. As much as possible, the judges are matched with the competitors by industry and the large number of judges allows for much more interaction and coaching for the student teams, providing the best educational experience. Students benefit from the contacts and knowledge they gain from the Rice competition to help them launch their new businesses. Nearly 60% of the judges at the 2004 RBPC said they met companies that they would consider as a potential investment opportunity.
"We were at another university business plan competition and found that there was no comparison with the number of VCs gathering at Rice."
