谈谈英语吧，上学阶段，找工作，和工作以后如何快速有效的提高英语能力？做project和美国同学讨论不是一件很容易的事情，思维方式和做事的方式有很大的差异，我知道很多公司不愿意找国际学生的原因就是嫌英语太差，投行的工作，对语言的要求更高，不知携隐是如何考虑语言问题和提高语言能力的？面试中对于那些突如其来的问题，如何顺利过关？

非常感动携隐这么多年来对CD的贡献。<br /><br />我当时看《Monday Business》 的时候对IBD印象很不好。完全不考虑。但是几个月前看了携隐的这个帖子后，又开始理解IBD的好处了。现在在写essay 也准备把Career Goal写成进IBD了（好大的转变）。<br /><br />请问携隐，business school的哪些经历帮助了你实现进入IBD呢?

<br /><br /><span style="color:#013ADD;">IBD除了同行招聘之外只在target school招聘，所以商学院是你进入IBD的通行证。至于具体的帮助，根据学校的不同会有很大的不同。拿我的学校来说，Michigan很特别的一点是基本所有东西都是student run，包括各种投资基金，招生活动，学生clubs，职业顾问，等等，所以事无巨细为你着想的非常之周到--因为都是上一届及许多届学长们自己亲身经历的东西，在位的干部们也都是自发自愿因而特别用心。以Finance club为例，每周的例会中会详细告知本周招聘进入什么阶段，应做什么事情，注意什么问题。又因为干部们都已经拿到了各家的offer，所以会每周告诉大家各位招聘者的反馈，他们提到的有人所犯的明显的错误（Michigan的招聘队伍也就是校友相对来说也比较宽容和帮忙），等等。Finance Club还会定期组织resume review和mock interview活动，届时几乎所有二年级focus在finance的学长们会全部出动，花上一整天的时间挨个给你看简历，做面试。就好比加入一个五星级旅行团，什么东西都是安排好的，照做就行，有问题找导游就行。</span><br /><span style="color:#013ADD;"><br /></span><br /><span style="color:#013ADD;">除了Finance Club，Michigan的career counselor也是很特别的。这些counselors都是拿到offer的学生，竞争上岗（竞争还挺激烈因为基本上每个拿到offer的都会想要代代传承，回馈学校），每周会按要求post最少8到10个小时的时间（简历和面试旺季则会相应增加），在学校的网页上放上个人介绍和available的sessions，供学生选择。每个session大概为半个小时到45分钟，内容为咨询（帮助学生了解IB，决定是不是要pursue这个职业），改简历，mock interview等等。所以学生绝对不用担心没有地方问问题或进行mock interview。每周counselors会开会，讨论本周遇到的普遍性问题，各自给出建议等等。我本人也曾是counselor，mock interview季节一个星期要做30几个mock，完全累趴，那几周都不想跟人讲话</span><span style="color:#013ADD;"><img src="/static/legacy-emoticon/20.gif" emoticon="[em:20]" alt="" />。说这个是想说，所有couselor都是非常之尽心尽力的。</span><br /><span style="color:#013ADD;"><br /></span><br /><span style="color:#013ADD;">除了组织上的帮助外，Michigan的同学和学长氛围很好，不管认识不认识，基本去要求帮助他们都会热心帮忙。我的简历曾经得到我section一个很早就拿到可口可乐offer的学marketing的同学帮忙，她的角度不同，又是本土美国人，对我启发很大。至于做finance的就更不用提了，在食堂碰到学长吃饭去问问题他都会直接放下先跟你讲开。</span><br /><span style="color:#013ADD;"><br /></span><br /><span style="color:#013ADD;">对于我这种菜鸟来说，正是Michigan这种包围式的帮助帮我拿到了offer。我在提交简历之前，简历起码被20个人改过。我在正式面试之前，起码做过30个mock interviews。但是每个学校的风格非常之不同，我拿到offer后也有一些其他学校的朋友打电话来问我怎么准备，我问他们你们finance club说什么？他们说什么都没说，我又问那你有没有找学长，他们说没有这个氛围，我再问那career counselor呢？他们说都是学校的老师根本都没做过IBD。这些朋友们的学校其实有些是很顶尖的金融学校，但是正因为学校顶尖，学生大多来自金融或很强的其他背景，反而没有了从菜鸟开始的帮助流程，也缺少了全校参与互相帮助的气氛。</span>

补充说一句，书都只代表作者观点，尤其是美国的作者。Monkey Business讲的不一定不是真的，但是肯定不是全部。MBA之后的职业选择对于你一生的职业规挂非常之重要，基本决定了以后你要走哪一条路，所以要多方了解。你的学校的学长和校友，你的朋友，这些人的亲身经历才是最可靠的一手材料。每份工作都有利弊，选择职业的时候要从大局和平衡角度考虑，不能情绪用事。

<img src="/static/legacy-emoticon/0.gif" emoticon="[em:0]" alt="" /> Thank you a lot, it helps. &nbsp;I am currently working in an IT field and want to wait until my hb (he is in a top tier MBA program now, one of the core schools with finance major) comes out from MBA program then I am considerate to take a part time mba or emba in HK because of my age pressure and financial pressure. &nbsp;After reading through the discussion, I found out that I am not interested in IB, most like I will be a fit in marketing or corporate finance or corporate operational strategy. &nbsp; I am in mid 30 already. &nbsp;I am not sure if it is too late. &nbsp;<br /><br />I am currently interviewing a technical VP position in GS in HK office, I finished all 5 round of interviews and I am waiting for reply now (I never worked in HK or any place other than New York and my education background is also from New York but not top tier school). &nbsp;I guess my personality is pretty suitable for GS culture. &nbsp;I am planning to work there for short time, then decide if I want stay there or transfer back to US depend on my hb's choice. <br /><br />1) I want to know if it worth for me to get a MBA degree and change a career in corporate finance? &nbsp;<br />2) Is it possible that I transfer internally? &nbsp;From the interview, my impression from my future manager is that the transfer is pretty easy in GS.<br />3) and If I worked in HK, how good is my chance to transfer back to New York Office?

I want put more info. &nbsp;I have 10+ IT professional services experiences (telecom, CRM and web) and different industries such as pure technology, government sector, financial insurance, etc.<br /><br />my BS degree is BBA and computer science. &nbsp;I have one child, my parents are helping me now. &nbsp;So the family issue isnt an issue for me. &nbsp;I personal think it is ok that I send my kid to HK for further education. &nbsp;I think my hb is interest in asset management, I dont know how long is the working hour here, therefore, I think I better not to work on a very intensive work and I also want diversify the job risk.<br /><br />I just want to know if you have any suggestions which way is best for me to take.

关于coverage and product group，有没有可能做一段时间的product group 把valuation的基本功打牢，然后再去coverage呢？这样不是对整个deal了解的更深么？

从第1页看到92页，感谢携隐MM的辛劳付出<br /> 想问携隐mm：<br /> <br /> 我情况比较特殊，是学医的，明年从国内top2医学院硕士毕业，在来到北京读硕士时才知道并了解i-bank，当时只是知道毕业后在大公司工作几年上著名学校MBA这种途径可以有机会进入，于是上学时我逃课去外企实习，考了CFA1，忙活了一通，现在虽然拿到了德勤，辉瑞等的offer，可我发现年龄成了最大的问题！我毕业时已经27了，我在想，我起码要工作2-4年才可以申请MBA，就算顺利审上顶尖名校，毕业时也都31-33岁，这样的高龄还有可能进入投行吗？我这种情况是不是根本就不应该做这种白日梦啊？
