present 应该没错，我在98。10月托福阅读见到此用法。
如present on ********,the water is*******.
我今天早上做的PP，碰到这个问题，我选的是C， one of the simplest sugars.
我的分数是13-30,证明我选的没错。

present在这里是adj.短语做定语, 但one of 后面的the 必不可少,我觉得不一定要用最高级,但是一定是特指的范围,所以是one of the sugars.

nicolas:lasts too long ----> lasts so long  , 如果是too...to...结构是指"太...以至于不...", 根据题意是指干燥的天气持续很长时间"而"产生一个严重的水循环的不平衡,这显然不是too...to...结构.

i think your revision is not correct, "last too long" should be "last long", because there is a "enough" after "long", i think "last long enough" is better than "last so long enough"

I think "between" should be changed to "among". Between indicate two things, but "them" refers to " some early inhabitants of North America".
