Really?  You mean to say that no one had the common sense to know that unauthorized access of admissions results would be illegal and unethical??

That's like saying since I didn't know something is illegal, I shouldn't be punished for violating the law... that's ridiculous.

I think those who take unethical or illegal shortcuts in life should (and hopefully will) be justly punished.

I suspect that the person who posted it didn't really think to warn/remind the readers that this may in fact be illegal... so it could be argued that the advocate of illegal access bears at least some responsibility; of course, the bulk of the responsibility lie with those who didn't have the common sense/ethical standards to realize that this access was illegal/unethical.

He tried it himself. If he had thought it would hunt him later, I believe he wouldnt have tried it.

But I have to say it is very hard to justify if it is ethical, when hacking being so popular nowadays. It was quite dramatic at the end when Harvard punished all the hackers. I didnt beleive stanford and other schools did the same, did they? I might be wrong.

We all live with a clear conscience and know that I live by what I consider to be high ethical standards.  As MBA students, may of us have never told a company that we would definitely go work for them, we only tell them that we are interested in their company, and would be excited to join them or have the opportunity to work for them. We wrote essays expressing our interest in each school, and how we will make a good candidate for that school, and would like to join them if accepted.

So at least I, for one, can honestly, without a single shred of conceit, tell you that I have been honest with my recruiters and the schools to which I applied.  So don't lecture us on ethics.

I think 贝贝's point is valid, MBAs look for jobs and employers expect you to compare them against others, PhD advisors are professors who invest resources in you, and expect you to at least be honest and communicate your intentions with them on a timely basis.
