Some tips for Essay 2 and 3 from a Rotman 1 year student: In general, my tips for the essays are to make sure that you bring in how your experiences (at work and extra activities) will enhance the Rotman community. For example, you could say that you have a strong interest in promoting business to woman, and as an executive member of the Rotman Women in Management Association you can lead the team and help recruit more women in to business. Also, you can say how your work experiences (mention something unique) will enhance the learning environment for your class. I think that the admissions committee would like to see how you can contribute to the Rotman community. So mentioning clubs/associations that you would get involved with will help, along with how your past experiences will be valuable to the rest of the class. The admissions want to know that you will be an active member of the Rotman community so as long as that comes through in your essays, it should be fine. In terms of the question 2, I would mention more of your soft skills. Maybe mention some leadership role you had in an extra activity outside of work and say how that will help with your interest in a leadership position on a Rotman Club/Association (of course you would have to be more specific with the leadership role and which club you would be interested in). They are more personal questions, but the advise I can offer is to make sure it all ties back in to how you can help make Rotman a better place/learning environment for the class.
As a suggestion, for question 2 you could talk about any diverse experience (working abroad, etc), or something else unique and how you can bring different cultural experiences to the Rotman classroom.
For question 3, you could talk about how you would become known for your integrative thinking skills and try to work the Rotman integrative thinking trademark in to the answer. This way you can say that you will achieve these new integrative thinking skills by participating in the Foundations of Integrative Thinking class (the one that you attended 2 weeks ago) and being a member of one of the clubs/associations to make a difference in the decisions made in the associations. |
