May I ask about Alumni interviews (see below)? Does it mean Kellogg will do screening/selection of candiates for alumni interviews based on Part 1 information submitted? Thanks a lot.

Alumni Interviews
Applicants requesting an off-campus interview will be notified of their assignment by email after Part 1 of the Kellogg application has been received by the Office of Admissions. If no email address is provided, candidates will be notified by post, which may take several weeks. During peak season (November to March), expect to receive the interview assignment two to six weeks after the Office of Admissions receives Part 1 of the application.

Dear MianZhu:

The answer to your question is no.  Kellogg essentially interviews alomost all applicants.   It does not use your Part 1 information to screen candidates for interview.

During peak season, some applicants might be waived the interview requirement.  If it happens to you, don't worry.  ADCOM will proceed with the rest of your application and if they like your candidacy, they will set up a make-up interview with you.

Hope this answers your question.

Dear Avaja:

Please be advised that Adcom don't waive interview based on candidates' qualification.  They waive interview based on availability of the alumni in your geography.   Suppose if 100 applicants apply for alumni interview in SH, and the capacity is only 50, then the 50 who applied the earliest will be granted interviews.

I personally was waived the interview initially.  Later the Adcom contacted me for a make-up interview.  So don't worry.  Think about it in a more positive way -- if Adcom contacts you for a make-up interview, you know you have a very good chance to get in.  Another benefit of a make-up interview is that the Adcom will know your material pretty well so you and your interviewer can discuss in-depth about your candidacy.

Good luck with your applicaiton.

没有啦,我还没有安排面试。偶坐在大概第三四排的样子,在房间进来的那一边。有一个GG举手问Kellogg对reapplication有没有偏见,他右手边就是我。

Unfortunetely I did not look behind while I sat in the second row. Hopefully we could meet in the Shanghai New Year Party.

Hi triumph_tt,

I think that's great that you got the 740 GMAT; that's one thing you don't have to worry about anymore.  However, for the TOEFL, if you have time to take it again before you apply, I suggest you try to raise this score.  If you don't have time to take it again, I suggest that you apply to Kellogg anyway.  You never know if you'll get in unless you try, and the rest of your application may be so strong that they will give you admission even with that TOEFL score.

Another thing to consider is that if your TOEFL or AWA is very low, you may want to take the summer before business school to really work on your English, no matter which school you go to.  Otherwise, you will have a really tough time going to a business school in the U.S.  You may need to spend double the time on your assignments or you may not feel very confident to speak in class, which is very important here at business school.

Hi KelloggMBA07, thanks for your second suggestion. It's really pertinent and helpful. You are right. If luckily I could be admitted, I will spend the whole summer on improving my english.
