昨天的session上介绍说,Kellogg还是很支持创业的。请问在毕业的学生中,自己创业的占多少比例呢?大概是start了什么样的公司,IT、service or others?如果创业的不多,大多数毕业生都去了什么行业?

thx in advance!

New Ventures Formulations and Entrepreneurial Finance are two of the most popular classes at Kellogg and they really help people to start up their own business.  There is the Levy Center for Entrepreneurship and an Entrepreneurship major here at Kellogg.  There is a very big Business Plan Competition every year where real VCs come in to give you feedback on your business and tell you whether or not they would fund your project.  Also, if you win the Competition, you can get seed money for your business.

As for the types of businesses, I believe people are interested in starting all types of businesses, but especially high tech.

To be honest, most business schools do not encourage students to start their own businesses that much.  The reason is because that would hurt their statistics for the average salary after-MBA.

Kellogg is known for these strengths and most people go into one of these categories:

Management Consulting
General Management
Marketing

However, many people go into Banking and Finance jobs as well.

Currently the hot and sexy jobs are Private Equity, Venture Capital, and Hedge Funds for people who have already done consulting or banking.

Kellogg celebrates diversity in its students and leadership.  lease be careful with this type of attitude. Saying such phrases like "Spanish English is awful" and that "they are the people you want the least to talk to" will not get you very far at Kellogg.

Also, did you know that the Dean of Kellogg is Indian and has a strong Indian English accent?

Chinese people sometimes have difficulty being understood by others when they speak English, so the world would be a much better place if we were more tolerant of different ways of speaking English.

Very insightful post....

it reminds me new york city. One half of nyc residents were not born in the states. Most of them speak english with accents, more or less. When you get to know them, you will be amazed that you learn not only their languages/accents, but also many wonderful stories behind them.

Hello, I do not know of any Chinese studying real estate as a major at Kellogg, but I have taken a class in Real Estate Development and I know many of my friends have taken real estate classes.

I think if you are a career switcher into real estate, it is essential for you to get real estate as one of your majors to show your true interest.  However, one thing I learned from my class, is that you have to go out there and actually DO Real Estate, by getting involved in research, transactions, developlment, financing, sales, advertising, in order to really learn it.

The people who are interested in real estate at Kellogg seem to be a tight-knit community, because they are very passionate about real estate, and they are not doing it for the money (often people who go into real estate do not get a very high salary after MBA, unless they do banking).

As for placement, everyone I know who wants to do real estate gets into a real estate job after Kellogg.

Thanks a lot! It's very helpful....

Thanks for bringing such an insightful view to all of us! I guess that what all of us need to pay more atttention to when it comes to such a diversified environment as Kellogg.

Everyone more or less has an accent, even Americans do. So I didn't intend to insult those with accent, yes, I got Chinese accent too.  Whenever one puts through his or her thought, one has to make sure to make it understandable, and that is my point.

Sorry about the "aweful words" I made and hope it won't cause any inconvenience.

Don't worry about the Career Management Center's goals of having a high after MBA salary.  Once you get in, you can do whatever you want and they will not pressure you.  Also, if you are truly interested in entrepreneurship, that is an excellent way to make yourself stand out to the Admissions Committee.  I don't think they would count this against you at all.

Anyone knows about transcript? I have a question here about the trascript.  I found in the Kellogg website that adcom requires the applicants to fill the "transcript request form" which is sealed by the registrar and send to school.  However, I don't find any so called "transcript request form" on the school web.  Can I just send my certified transcript which is issued and sealed by school to school without "transcript request form"?  Your early response would be highly appreciated!

Yes, if you can't turn in the form, then send in the certified transcript and it should be okay.
