Since there aren't that many questions here on ChaseDream, I will post some personal comments.  lease note that this does not reflect the views of the Kellogg School of Management or the Admissions Committee at Kellogg.

For those of you applying, I know that you are interested in knowing what Kellogg is looking for.  I know sometimes the answers are rather vague so let me give you my specific point of view.

1)  The GMAT, TOEFL, and GPA are just tools used for the first filter of applicants.  You just need to get a high enough score so that the admissions committee won't worry about it.  If you are very much below average on any one of these, you really need the rest of your application to be outstanding.

2)  Start on your essays early.  This is the most important part of your application.  Really spend time to reflect on your life and what you want to do in the future.  Ask friends who have gone to business school to review your essays and write several drafts of your essays.  Also, make sure to answer the exact question that they are asking.  Often people applying to business schools like to copy and paste from other essays.  I think you should start each question from each b-school with a new document, and after you write a draft, look at your other essays from other business schools to see if you can use the same stories for this question.  This will help you avoid giving "almost" the right answer to a question they ask.  Follow the word/space limits.

3)  Give out your Career Progress Surveys (recommendations) early.  This is one part which is difficult to control because you want a great recommendation, but you need them to follow your deadlines and instructions.  Talk to the people and make sure that you can get the best recommendation possible.  Also, make it easy for them by providing a summary of what you have done in the past and what your goals are, a list of instructions, and the FEDEX envelopes and stamps.  Everything they write in the recommendations should support your essays.  Also, encourage them to compare you to the rest of your peer group and write anecdotes about you.  Anecdotes are the key to excellent recommendations.  After you get accepted, give them a gift, e.g. a bottle of champagne.

4)  repare for the interviews by doing mock interviews with alumni or friends who have gone to b-school.  The questions you definitely need to know the answer to are:

a.  What have you done in your career up until now?  What's your story?
b.  Why business school?  Why now?
c.  Why Kellogg?  What do you plan to do at Kellogg and how do you plan to contribute?

Then you need to know the answers to the other standard interview questions, e.g.

a.  Walk me through your resume.  Remember to give the reasons behind your decisions and not just the facts in your resume.
b.  What are your strengths/weaknesses
c.  Tell me about a time when you were a leader.
d.  Tell me about a group interaction, or team experience that you had.

You need to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, success, intelligence, maturity, friendliness, self-awareness, generosity of your skills/talents/time to others, listening skills, and passion.

Good luck getting into Kellogg!

谢谢KELLOGGMBA07的申请准备意见!

关于圣诞放假的安排及寄送成绩的要求,我今早得到ADMISSION的回复,在此一并贴于下:

Dear Ring:

Thank you for your interest in Kellogg School of Management and your queries. Our office is closed, Friday, December 23rd, Monday, December 26th, Friday, December 30th and Monday, January 2nd. You may mail hard copies of your application to us during the holiday season. For your test scores, you will need to request the scores from ETS by the deadline date to which you are applying. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us.

想问一下Ring, 可以只寄 official transcript issued and sealed by school吗?还是也要寄Kellogg on line application 里头的"transcript request form"?

MMM is a 2-year dual degree program between Kellogg and School of Engineering.  The  difference between FT-MBA and MMM is that 1) in theory, you need manufacturing-related work experience to qualify for MMM program, 2) different curriculum - MMM students are required to take some classes in School of Engineering.  However, there is no significant difference betweem MMM and FT-MBA in terms of school activities and placement.  Lots of MMM land consulting jobs after school.  I talked to some MMM students.  They all like their program for the reason that they can get two degrees at the same cost in two years.  I believe the admission criteria for both programs are the same.

There are no MMM Students from Mainland China, but 3 first year MMM from Taiwain.  You can check out the attached link for more information.

May I ask about Alumni interviews (see below)? Does it mean Kellogg will do screening/selection of candiates for alumni interviews based on Part 1 information submitted? Thanks a lot.

Alumni Interviews
Applicants requesting an off-campus interview will be notified of their assignment by email after Part 1 of the Kellogg application has been received by the Office of Admissions. If no email address is provided, candidates will be notified by post, which may take several weeks. During peak season (November to March), expect to receive the interview assignment two to six weeks after the Office of Admissions receives Part 1 of the application.
