P1: What causes competing plants to win or lose?
P4:alternative theory: patchiness. Generations之间的competitiveness.主要包括以下几个方面(后面的实验也是在研究这几个问题):①the presence of adult plants inhibit…②previous generations affect the survival of present seedlings
P6:目的:to explore the role of patchiness on competition between groundsel and bluegrass.
方案内容:春天in the same plots种了bluegrass和groundsel plants,groundsel plants密度是bluegrass的四分之一。
spatial patterning can have an enormous impact.
P7: not from neighborhood competition. P&S
P8: gaps did affect.(注意on the other hand,态度的转变,和上一段相反)。
P9:提出新的假设:bluegrass litter dead blades and roots.
P10:前面新假设的延伸,a series of greenhouse experimentsthe effect of litter comes from the dead blade above.
P11:总结所有的investigations: special pattern effects the success of groundsel.
