Support and Thanks!

I have several questions

(1) Because Sloan has a 500 word limitation on each essay, do you think a 10%+ is available, such as 515 or 520 ?

(2) Do you think Sloan like the candidate strongly emphasize their quantitative skills in essay or resume?

(3) I heard about that the average students age from mainland is 29 last year. Is it ture? Is there someone under 26 from mainland in Sloan07 or 08?

(4) Do you think "We are smarter than Me" is exteremly important culture in the community of Sloan.

Thanks a lot!

I have Four questions about MIT.

1) Can you share with us some information about first year Chinese students background? Such as, the students number, where they came from, and which industries they worked for before sloan?

2) Did any Chinese student get scholarship before? If so, what's the percentage?

3) From a current student standpoint, what aspects do you think are Sloan's strengths and really apart it from other Top B-school?

4) How about Class 2007 chinese students' placement?

Sorry for so many questions. I believe many other perspective students will also eager to know.

Thanks a lot!

WOW! At last I see Sloanies in CD!

Quesions:
1/ If my long term (or short term) goal is to start own business, but I don't apply for E&I program, is this case treated UNREASONABLE by adcom?
2/ MIT students can take some courses in Harvard, how do you think this advantage? How does this benefit you?

Thanks!

Hi all,

Glad to see so many ppl interested in Sloan here. We apologize that sometimes there might not be real-time replies, but we will try to answer them asap. If there are more questions, please feel free to raise them up in this thread.

To 2F:

1. 10%+ will be fine. The reason why they have a word limit is to prevent applicants from having too much unnecessary content. As long as the content is concise and interesting for expressing your point, there is no problem w/ that.

2. Not only Sloan, I think every b school would like to see quantitative results on your resume, but not necessarily in your essays. Think about attributes you can put in essays instead.

3. The average age for class of 08 from China is around 29 indeed, and there is no one under 26 in class 07 or 08. There is one in HBS class 09 aged 24 though.

4. One of Sloan's strongest attributes is team work, so you are right. We are basically like a big family here, and it's really different from other schools from my personal view.

To 3F:

1.  I think Xi can handle this part better for us. From what I know there are people from consulting, banking, consumer product, biomedical, logistics, finance, venture capital, international trading, etc.

2.  I don't remember anyone getting the scholarship in class 07 and 08. Xi, please correct me if I am wrong here.

3. In terms of disciplines: consulting, entrepreneurship, supply chain, information technology. In terms of attributes: innovation, teamwork, entrepreneurial, leadership.

4. People in class 07 mainly go into industries like consulting, banking, high tech, etc.

To 5F:

1. Not applying to E&I won't be reasonable if you wanna start your business in the future.

2. Sloan and HBS have a cross-registration system. This actually benefits students in both schools from taking classes at each other's strongest areas. But I would suggest not to emphasize on this too heavily since after all you are appying for Sloan in its essays.

Seems Eric has answered most of the questions

Here is something for the question: Can you share with us some information about first year Chinese students background? Such as, the students number, where they came from, and which industries they worked for before sloan.

Here we have 7 chinese students recruited directly from mainland in class 2009. 5 worked in shanghai, 1 in Beijing, 1 in Shenzhen.  As to the industies we worked before Sloan, rather diversified: management consulting, international shipping, fund management, cosmetics, international trading.

There are also 6-7 Chinese students recruited overseas from Hong Kong, Singapore and the U.S.

One more thing to add: 2 of us are 26, while others are around 29 or 30.

Eric, Yan and Zhao:

Thanks a lot for your first-hand answers.

Another 3 questions.

(1) How about the general background about the 2 students under 26, do they possess a big title in their W/E or some special outstanding point?

(2) I saw a post in the BW student forum about MIT application recently, lots of people suggests the Indian ITers save their apply fee to sloan. Do you think the IT background and Engineer background are too common in Sloan candidate pool, which makes the competition extremely fierce? If you are one of them, how you successfully differentiate your background? Do you think GMAT 700 is too low for the ITer?

(3) How much percent did Sloan give its candidate interview?

Thanks and have a nice day

HI, Behemoth and Mitsloan

我有个问题:在online
application,
有一栏要填写Previous
employment
