谢谢MIT校友的回答,我想问一下,我看到网站上说reapplicant需要在第一轮申请,不知道这个要求是不是很严格,作为reapplicant能不能第二轮提交?谢谢

Usually reapplicants should apply in 1st round for a better position and show your passion to the school. Of course you can submit in 2nd round as well, just that the chances might be smaller. I think this argument stands true for all the top b-schools in the U.S.

不知道现在问会不会太迟?

请问:gmat的官方成绩单要不要寄到,MIT才开始review材料?网站上没说。

From my experience, usually the school will start to review your material as long as you have copies of transcripts with your application package. However, you should also order your official transcript to be sent to the school as soon as possible too.

Hi Sloan guys,

I just want to apply Sloan MBA program next year, and i have not got a GMAT score now.

Below is my background:

Education:

1999~2003, Zhejiang University, Electrical Engineer, BS

2003~2006, Zhejiang University, Power Electronics, MS

the GPA is about 3.5/5~4/5

Work experience:

2006.4~now, marketing product engineer in a America company based in Shanghai

Here are my questions:

1. Does Sloan prefer engineer background?

2. I only get about 3 years work experience when I start to apply Sloan MBA program, is that enough to apply? Does Sloan have any request for work experience? And if I just work for 1 company before I apply the program, is it ok?

3. If I failed next year, can I apply again in the year of 2010?

Thanks a lot! here is my msn: stonezm(A) hotmail.com

For your questions,

1. Sloan doesn't  prefer engineer background background really much, but that will definitely help you in the Sloan application since it fits into the MIT overall realm.

2. Usually people will talk about w/e until they quit the job before coming to b-school. But 3 yr w/e is enouhg for you to get into a top-tier b school already.

3. Yes you can still reapply the next year if you don't get admitted this year. However, do focus on improving your weaknesses in the coming year if that really happens.

Dear MIT friends

Backgrouds:

GMAT: 660 (M50,V29)

TOEFL: N/A

Education:Master degree in France (Top 5 grand ecole)

Work experiece: 7 years; Age: 33(actually, i am 31,but there is a mistake in ID when I was enrolled by Chinese Universtiy....)

图片点击可在新窗口打开查看图片点击可在新窗口打开查看

Position: Product line manager in a foreign company,

Language: French, English, Chinese

As i am very busy everyday, I have no time to retake my GMAT. Could you please tell me whether my GMAT is too low to apply MIT? Thanks for your feedback and I really appreciate your suggestions.

Given the length of your w/e and your international exposure, I would say you definitely fall into the MIT candidate pool as long as you can present yourself well in the essays. 660 is also within the GMAT range at Sloan. Good luck!!

Hi there,

I found many schools provide 1-year MBA programs in addition to their traditional 2-year programs. How do you MBA guys think of such condensed programs, are they worth going to? Obviously such 1-year programs will save time and money, but what about their reputation, education quality etc in comparison to 2-year programs? I am facing a hard decision and would like to hear your advise. Thank you so much!

Hi rouslinj,

Usually the one-year program is so-called the EMBA program. It's often for people with more w/e and also for those who are sponsored by companies. In Sloan, the one-year program reserves the best professors, some of whom only teach at the EMBA program. I would suggest the one-year program to you if you are one of the following:

1. Company sponsored.

2. Don't want to spend much time on MBA and be away from the job market.

3. Long w/e and exceed the normal MBA age range.

Thank you Behemoth, I know there are similar programs called EMBA, but I guess these
programs are for 'executives' or something that I am definitely not?

As to me, I am 28-years old with 3 years of w/e. No company
sponsorship. So far time/money is not my 1st priority and I am more
concerned with the quality of education. Since my w/e is strongly
technology-oriented, I feel there's a lot for me to learn in business,
such as capital raising and company operation, and I found my interest
is largely covered by the mitsloan E&I, which is a part of its
ordinary 2-year program. I know comparisons between different programs
are mostly case-by-case, so please let me ask a rather similified
question: for 1-year and 2-year program of a same school, does the
community recognize their education/degree/competence equally?

Thanks!

Dear Behemoth,

some questions:

1. I apply for MIT 2nd round. And met Garcia in the middle of Feb. I just had a few minutes to talk with him, and only focused on my passion for E&I program. I did not have high-tech background but entrepreneurship is really my dream.. But I'm afraid my characteristics do not match MIT's. Do you mind taking a look at my email communication with Garcia?

2. Harriet Barnett said "After you visit, you are welcome to write to me with any impressions and anything to update your application."

I had some other essays that I did not really get the chance to put in my MIT applciation due to time limitation. Any nagative impact if I prepare some updates to admission office, such as a big accomplishment in 2007?

Usually the one-year programs in the U.S. are EMBA programs except for the MS programs. For Sloan in particular, it is an EMBA program.

For your question, the community does recognize them equally in all regards. I would actually recommend the 2-yr program to you since you don't have a business background. However, you can try the MBA programs in Europe such as LBS and Insead. They are all one-year programs.

Good luck!

Hi demilin,

For your questions:

1. It's good that you had a brief conversation with Rod. Some exposure always helps. Don't worry about your background too much since lots of people at Sloan don't have tech backgrounds either. Feel free to send me your email with Rod, and I will give you my opinions afterwards.

2. Some updates, like a accomplishment in 2007, after visiting the school will definitely help. You can re-emphasize your passion towards Sloan and your personal feeling about the campus. One thing to be aware of is that don't make it too long. Usually one essay of about 500 words is max.
