As a result of pollution in cities, an increasing amount of urban dwellers leave from cities to villages to pursuit more suitable residences. In fact, villages have a lot of advantages: they are usually peaceful, close to nature, and, more importantly, spacious. Although there are many shortcomings for living in the cities, my family still has a lot of reasons to do so.

All of my family members will save time, if we live in the city. An important reason is that our daily activities happen around the city. My parents, for instance, are the common white collars. On weekdays, they drive to the downtown in our city at which their office buildings are located. Therefore, if our family live in village far away from their office, my parents have to get up extremely early in the morning, especially thinking of traffic congestion nowadays. As for me, living near the downtown area is also good news. I could go to the school just by bike and save a great amount of time to do my homework. Hence, to save the time consumed in traffic, city is a better place to take care of a family.

Medical condition could be another important reason to prevent my family from living in the countryside. There is no doubt that hospitals equipped with good doctors and devices are all located at city. Because of distance between city and countryside, patients may miss the optimal opportunity for treatment. Take one of my uncles for example. After retiring, he moved to countryside to live out his final years in peace. In a late evening, he suddenly felt headache and was sent to the nearest hospital in the countryside immediately. Unfortunately, even though the doctors of this hospital did not find any problems with him, he still passed away only on the second day in the hospital. As far as I am concerned, inferior medical condition in rural hospital should take responsible for his death. Therefore, since my parents are at an advanced age, good medical condition is essential for my family.

Education adds more importance to living in the city. Unquestionably, city possesses superior education recourses. With the development of urbanization, good fundamental education firstly thrives in cities. Then, because these schools could afford high salaries, they attract many good teachers to leave their hometown and to look for jobs in the cities. The good teachers in turns improve teaching quality further. Thus a beneficial cycle formed. Apart from classroom education, extracurricular activities are more various in cities due to advanced facilities, such as gyms, computer centers with high network speed and libraries. Therefore, my family inclines to live in the city in order to receive better education.

Owing to the reasons I mentioned above, I find it hard to part with my house in the city. Therefore, I believe that city is more suitable for taking care of a family.

Should we always state our honest opinions (statement) even though most people don’t agree with you?

Some people are oppressed by the fear of being “unique”. They talk in the same way as others do, behave like all of the other gentlemen or ladies and even see things from the same perspective as that of others; but they are empty of creativity and imagination. Another group of people talk their views loudly, even among which are different from others’. I find the latter group of people more interesting.

As is often pointed out, truth often lies in the hand of a few. People should be no shame of talking about a truth, even though other people are against them. Take Apple as an example. After it just launched a new product, its research team was always inundated with the complaints from customers about the appearance of the new product. However, its selling data strongly refuted those criticisms: millions of people will not spend several thousands dollars on an ugly product unless they come to realize the beauty of it. Therefore, the key question is not whether most people agree with a certain point but whether you speak it out.

Even though my answer is wrong and others’ are right, it is not a big deal to state my honest opinions, because I could learn from the process that I discuss with other people and figure out why we are different. For example, my mathematic dragged my feet when I was in high school. But unlike my classmates who shared the weak point with me, I was never afraid of speaking my wrong answers in the math class. By analyzing my wrong answers, my math teacher got to know the reason why I got the wrong answers and explained it to me. Gradually, mathematic could not bother me anymore. Hence, no matter what other people think, people should straightly state their own thoughts.

The difference views actually are the source of innovation. Almost every splendid historical era could prove that the world needs different views regardless of right or wrong. For instance, dating back to Renaissance period, many different thoughts flourished at that time. Some of them are regarded as heresy from a religious perspective, which occupies a mainstream position in the medieval Europe. However, it was these controversial opinions that open the minds of early European and give impetus to the first industry revolution. It is worth mentioning that although some views in the early stage are not perfect, they helped to improve the subsequent viewpoints. Thus people should be encouraged to state their unique opinions.

Have you ever been confused about what kind of dream you should have? An achievable dream is better or a challenging but harder to fulfill one attracts you more. However, dream, in other words, is people’s expectation of their future, but if not coming true, it means nothing. Therefore, if I were you, I would prefer an achievable dream.

The more I get when dream comes true, the more I lose when it fails. Although the challenging dream tempts me with a lot of benefits, I am still oppressed by the fear of wasting all efforts. For instance, my brother was dreaming of becoming a professional football player in his childhood. This dream really challenged him because only people who not only have talented for football but also work really hard could qualify for this occupation. Thus he trained as hard as possible, but the results still fell short of his expectation. An accidental injury deprived him of his professional life, and he never recovered from it. Therefore, sometimes a dream that is too hard to attain may result in an unpredictable bad effect.

In contrast, a practical dream is relatively easy to achieve, thus providing people confidence and gradually leading people to succeed. Take myself as an example. Mathematic once was my nightmare. Unlike my aggressive classmates who were very anxious to get a perfect score in the next math exam, I made a simple goal for myself, specifically a requirement that I should only make a progress of five points in every subsequent exam. I got my first five points easily and then obtained one five points after another during my senior year. At last, I have never failed to come top in math examination. Hence, a practical dream encourages people to achieve their final goal step by step.

Another important function of real dreams is to foster an essential ability to recognize people themselves. To tell whether a dream is challenging or not actually requires people to know themselves very well. A person says he could lift a car that weighs in several tons might because he thinks himself man of unusually strength. Similarly, some people who insist on a challenging dream might not realize that it is tough for him to do so but regard it as an easy task. Thus choosing every attainable dream is one of the most important ways to learn how to evaluate people themselves.

Owing to the reasons as I mentioned above, I would rather make a workable dream first than have an impractical one.

In the listening, the professor thinks that the measures mentioned in the passages are unlikely to succeed and may cause unwanted damages.

First, contrary to what is mentioned in reading passage, erecting a fence could not prevent the spread of cane toads, because the young cane toads and their eggs are found in revers and streams. Through the waterways, they could flow from one side to another. Therefore, since a few young cane toads and eggs could establish a population on the other side, the fence will not be effective.

Second, conflicting with what is said in reading passage, the volunteers will result in a decline in a certain frog. These untrained volunteers have difficulty in telling the cane toads from a native frog especially when they are young. Hence, even though volunteers could trap and destroy the cane toad population, the native frogs are in danger.

Third, opposite to what is said in reading passage, a disease-causing virus will lead to terrible consequences. This virus will kill the American native cane toads since cane toads infected with this virus are possible to be transported to American for researches. Therefore, once the virus attacks and devastates the population of American native cane toad, it will be a disaster to ecosystem because American toad is an essential part of the ecosystem.
