HBS Q&A

Hi everyone, I'd be more than happy to share my personal thoughts (not officially representing the school though) on any questions regarding HBS. Though I might not be able to check emails on a daily base due to my traveling (apologies for that), I'll do my best to help as much as possible.

Thanks for everyone's collective efforts to make this discussion possible. Happy New Year and wish you all best luck in 2005!

Clark from HBS

Dear Clark,

Thank you very much for sharing!

1.How many Chinese did HBS admit last year?

2.What is the biggest challenge for Chinese to study in HBS?

Hi Clark,

Thank you for your kind offer.

What's your advice for a guy from mainland China to be admitted by HBS.

I attended HBS Global Leadership Forum this summer. That's great. HBS alumni are so strong.

Happy New Year.

Harry

Not sure about the official deadline. But based on my experience, it has not. Many people in R1 received invitations in Jan. The admission office is on holiday right now, so don't expect interview invitations until early Jan.

1. Total around 20. People with mainland passport is around 10. (rough numbers only, didn't count all of them one by one)

2. Biggest challenge for Chinese: class participation. Quickly organize your thoughts on the spot, find the right moment to join the discussion, and make your comments concise and understandable are the common difficulties most Chinese without any prior experience in the U.S. face in the first semester.

Interestingly, for Chinese of 2006 class, we have more female than male. I have had similar exerpeicne recruiting interns from China to the U.S. on my previous job. Generally (again, personal observation), girls in China are stronger in communication and presentation in English. Men are better at structuring thoughts, logical thinking and forming big pictures. So my suggestion would be to highlight your strength and improve your weakness. Sounds stereotype, but it's true from what I've experienced.
