I, three percent of current retail sales falls short of the amount raised for schools by property taxes. 还是II, Critics protest that three percent of current retail sales falls short of the amount raised for schools by property taxes.?

“E.   The first is a claim that the argument accepts with certain reservations; the second presents that claim in a rewarding that is not subject to those reservations.

我和白沙的想法一样:implementing the plan will probably not reduce the money going to Aroca’s schools.

open to discussion.

         i vote for A

Aroca City currently funds its public schools through taxes on property.  In place of this

system, the city plans to introduce a sales tax of three percent on all retail sales in the city. Critics protest that three percent of current retail sales falls short of the amount

raised for schools by property taxes.  The critics are correct on this point.  Nevertheless, implementing the plan will probably not reduce the money going to Aroca’s schools.

Several large retailers have sele cted Aroca City as the site for huge new stores, and these are certain to draw large numbers of shoppers from neighboring municipalities, where

sales are taxed at rates of six percent and more.  In consequence, retail sales in Aroca

City are bound to increase substantially.

In the argument given, the two potions in boldface play which of the following roles?

D.  The first is a claim that the argument seeks to refute; the second is the main point used by the argument to show that the claim is false.

"to show that the claim is false." contradicts  the conclusion of argument(will probably not reduce the money )

E.   The first is a claim that the argument accepts with certain reservations; the second presents that claim in a rewarding that is not subject to those reservations.

"a rewarding that is not subject to those reservations." is flase

the intention of the author is to refute the opinion of  critics, not to qualify it

laceName w:st="on">ArocalaceName> laceType w:st="on">CitylaceType> currently funds its public schools through taxes on property.  In place of thissystem, the city plans to introduce a sales tax of three percent on all retail sales in the city. In the argument given, the two potions in boldface play which of the following roles?

A.  The first is an objection that has been raised against a certain plan; the second is a prediction that, if accurate, undermines the force of that objection..

1)"implementing the plan will probably not reduce"

2)In consequence, retail sales in Aroca City are bound to increase substantially. 是对于Several large retailers have selected Aroca City as the site for huge new stores, and these are certain to draw large numbers of shoppers from neighboring municipalities这个现象的prediction.

D.  The first is a claim that the argument seeks to refute; the second is the main point used by the argument to show that the claim is false.

作者并没有说the first claim 是错的. 1) The critics are correct on this point

                                                                            2) implementing the plan will probably not reduce

E.   The first is a claim that the argument accepts with certain reservations; the second presents that claim in a rewarding that is not subject to those reservations.

第一句是对的, 第二句 claim in a rewarding  is not subject to those reservation 有点看不明白什么意思. 但感觉reservation 是作者不同意的地方, 如果是这样一来, 第二句说的present that claim in a rewarding that is not subject to those reservations就变成了作者不去反驳他认为可疑的地方了.

支持A

仔细看了看,别忘了这句话the critics are correct on this point.
