Even though there is a short explanation to this question in the list, it is not quite clear.  Could you tell me why not to choose A but E.

Stick to the preferences of ETS who just systematically think that all "which" refer to the immediate word before them  .

Contrary to what we learned in middle school, ETS don't think "which" can be used to refer to the whole sentence that precedes it.

In this question, it is obvious that California cannot "amounts to a little less than.. the population".

which 修饰minoity,句意理解，显然错误应该是whites amount to ...e用amounting来修饰whites，这种用法是ets喜欢和允许的

但是d答案有歧义，可以说是down/ from 3/4个十年（7.5年）前，也可以理解为原文的从十年前的

75%下降。

a答案的which就是修饰minority，少数民族现在一共有少于1/2的全加州的人口。虽然确实修饰whites似乎更好。而且通过动词are可以看出，whites就是minority，所以which修饰哪一个都一样。
