现在仔细分析了一下，的确C应该是对的。

个人觉得，在这里if it were to strike Earth更像是一个插入语，identified an asteroid that……and that….这是一个完美的平行，在后面一个that引导的从句中，that指代an asteroid，所以任何could和would前面的it都是多余的。

同意平行的说法,但不认为if it were to strike Earth是插入语

Scientists have identified an asteroid, 2000 BF19, that is about half a mile wide and that could do tremendous damage to part of the planet but would probably not cause planetwide destruction（if it were to strike Earth,）.

应该是if引导的一个虚拟的句子,if it were to ..., it would...!

首先大家好像都不知道and that 实际是一个连词短语表“而且”所以这里不存在什么that从句平行的问题

我是用在线英语词典查到这个意思的，网址是：http://www.iselong.com/online/Dictionary.htm

这个很好用，几乎所有固定用法都可以从上面查到

OG上好像也出现过and that这个短语，具体是哪一题我忘记了

would, probably OG上明确说过不能同时用，重复

关于虚拟大家可以看看刘振明对虚拟句的总结，我觉得非常简洁好用

C中的虚拟是表示完全不可能实现的事的虚拟

从句谓语用were to+V,主句谓语could,should,would, might+V

大家了解了这3个知识点就不难看出答案应该是A

C. and that, if it were to strike Earth, could do tremendous damage to part of the planet but would 与后面的probably 重复

D. and that, if Earth is struck by it, can do part of the planet tremendous damage, but it would

被动，罗嗦

E and that, if it strikes Earth, it could experience a tremendous amount of damage but

用IT说明受破坏的是asteroid，实际应是地球被破坏

A、E當中but 後面的助動詞被省略了，不可以。一般而言，平衡法若是在後面有重複的動詞，可以助動詞代替動詞，但不能連助動詞都省了。

例如...

I can go to the park but can not go to your place. 這事正確的

如果省略助動詞後，變成.... I can go to the park but not go to your place. 念起來怪怪的，right?

E中句子中的it指代两个不同的事物，从这点就知道是必然错误的。至于选项A，我觉得主要还是不平行，不如C漂亮
