the program is not as what ls mentioned. it is a pretty good program. but as some guys mentioned, it is not as good as the math finance in columbia, math finance in NYU, and the program in CMU. Cus the courses in the program s not that finance based. Most of the courses r about optimization. n students in this program r have math background. Its a program with lots of chinese n french students. I think u can gain a lot from this program. I conducted projects with students there. I really appreciate their ability in using matlab, conducting optimization n doing math calculation.
then i also have some experiences in job hunting. cus the career service in columbia s not as strong as cmu n nyu. students there have less chances than those two guys. also the international students s really hard to get a job, especially only have a master degree in the us without any work experiences. another point s that students in the statistics program s not as aggressive as business school students. that s also another reason why they dont have good records in job hunting.
I ll say that if u dont have better choice, just take it. Columbia's reputation s very impressive. N if u r good enough, like get a 4.0 gpa, or an intership from big names. I believe that u can get a perfect job, especially in NYC. If u get the ad from NYU, CMU or UC, then u just accept it. mit's msf s not as good as statistics in columbia. based on the location n reputation in the street.
