twice作为副词只能修饰动词或形容词，如果你注意的话会发现，在我们看到的绝大多数twice + n. 的结构中，这个短语本身都不是一个完整的句子，其实，这个短语绝大多数都是句子的简略；而twice作为标准句子的表达通常如下：Interest rates of our company are twice as high as those of our competitiors. 我们可以把这个句子改为：Interest rate of our company is 5％, twice as high as that of our competitors. 当然句子改的很不爽，但是可以区别出彼此的关系。

我还是有问题:

从语法上讲,twice不能修饰名词,而从逻辑上讲,我觉得twice只能修饰名词the number呢.例如:Twice two is four.这里,twice修饰谁呢?修饰is吗?

再如GWD:

In 1914 a total of 469,000 cars and trucks were produced in the United States, but in 1929 almost twice the numbers of tucks alone came off the assembly lines.

1. the numbers of tucks alone
   
2. that number of trucks alone
   
3. the number of trucks by themselves
   
4. as many trucks themselves
   
5. as many trucks by themselves

答案选B.  but后是个完整句子,  in 1929 almost twice that number of trucks alone came off the assembly lines. 这里twice又修饰谁呢? that number不是吗? 可是twice是副词，怎么能修饰that number 呢? 可是要理解成twice理解后面的came off好象很难呀......

还有就是这题大全51, twice the number reported in the 1977 survey.这里twice不是修饰the number吗?

心里很清楚 表倍数时 twice +名词 很常用.可对这个修饰就是无法理解.....stoneren GG再帮忙呀..... 无比感谢

我查阅了longman的twice，有类似twice the number的还有size / rate / amount等等，我得出的结论是，类似的这些词本身含有强烈的数字含义，所以他们不必用twice as much/many as这种结构来表达数字概念的比较，换言之，这些结构看似名词比较，实质还是as much/many/etc as的比较，不过在上述词出现时，as ... as结构被省略了，但是twice的副词含义并没有因为as结构的省略而发生变化。

看来只能这么理解了。反正就是记住：twice as many as/ twice +名词 两种固定表达。
