believes in ancient myths 之间画了一条鸿沟，所以 who 分句不能指代 one 了。”

这里是固定词组与逻辑的冲突，我选逻辑，他选固定词组。三十年前，我和他又有一次意见不同。more than one 后面跟的是单数还是众数。我说
more than one 就是一个以上，所以当然是众数。他却认为是大错，因为他不是这样分析的。more than one cat
这个词组，他看成是 more than (one cat)，而我则是看成 (more than one)
cats。在这点上我从了他，因为是英文的 idiomatic usage。但是在 one of those 这里，我还是认为要看语境。- o  a. n) E0 L" c+ p% g2 w

合理，不然 those people 就不能交代。上面例句最后那里的 the common vices 是很明确的，所以修饰语 that .
. . 修饰 one 不会带来逻辑上的真空。those people 和 the things 则不同了，太过笼统，不修饰一下就没有意义。”

The choice of singular or plural can depend on whether attention is directed to the generalityor to the uniqueness.  Compare:

Charlatanry is one of the many words in English that are of French origin.

                [=Of the many words in English that are of French origin, charlatanry is one.]
generality：words are of French origin （没有差别）

         Charlatanry is one of the common vices that is particularly contemptible.

       [=Of the common vices, charlantanry is one that is particularly contemptible.]
uniqueness: charlatanry is of particularly contemptible (common vices 程度各有不同)

我的理解，one of 后面，谓语动词用单数还是复数，这主要还是要看他是修饰one 还是 后面的复数名词，没有什么公理

我觉得that指代的是Matacil，而不是anti-budworm agents，从后面的least意思可以推断出来，如果是指代anti-budworm agents，那么least就不合适了
