As long as you don't report to someone, he is a colleague. If you have another manager to write for you, yes, explain it- it's very common, but you must still tell them why.

hi Jason, u are Great Niu!!! I am old with 10 yrs working experience and have a bad gmat history wiht highest score of 690. The worst thing is that i did not have any non-profit social activity. Nothing but study and work is in my life. Do I still have opportunity to apply for this school? looking forward to your guide.

Hi, Jason, millions of thanks.  I need to ask one more question. I am writing Wharton's essays now. In the second essay, I focus on leadership. In third essay, I choose the innovation topic. Now I am wondering if I can write innovation on technical level. I dont plan to exhibit leadership one more time. I wrote a technial case, but i am not sure that commitee are patient to read it, although it is related to finance. I can also choose to write event on business level. For example, I think one business model from US is not suitable for business in China. But I am confident enough to comment details of business operation level. I only have sense on that but I didnot execute one. Can you advice me?

Avoid technical topics. You will have readers from all sorts of backgrounds, and most likely some if not all of them will have no idea about what you're writing. They also all work independently, so it's not like they can (or will) pass this on to someone who they think is qualified to read it.

BTW, a lot of adcom have no finance background either.

So, communicate your ability to think differently. Don't get lost in the details.

Thanks Jason for  reading my essay

Some experience here to share---My background is more technical, so in my innovation essay, I covered several cases of being innovative as I do want to include my job in technical innovation but do not want to be considered as only a technical person.  But Jason thought my essay is too vague and did not show the essence of innovation.  I guess I was just too ambitious to include everything and did not focus on describing one time well.

I wanted to thank Jason for his advice for my essays. Jason gave very clear comments regarding my essay contents and structures, which allowed me to know what to improve.
For example, in the challenging interpersonal relationship essay, I used many words describing my actions but did not clearly analyze the other party and identified the issue that I and someone were struggling with.
