Q32:

A major chemical spill occurred five years ago at Baker’s Beach, the world’s sole nesting ground for Merrick sea turtles, and prevented nearly all the eggs laid that year from hatching.  Yet the number of adult female Merricks returning to lay their eggs at Baker’s Beach has actually increased somewhat since five years ago.  Clearly, environmentalists’ prediction that the world’s Merrick population would decline as a result of the spill has proven unfounded.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the argument offered in refutation of the environmentalists’ prediction?

(D)x

A.      The chemical spill five years ago occurred at a time when there were neither Merrick sea turtles nor Merrick sea turtle eggs on Baker’s Beach.

B.       Female Merrick sea turtles begin returning to Baker’s Beach to lay their eggs when they are ten years old.

C.      Under normal conditions, only a small proportion of hatchling female Merrick sea turtles survive in the ocean until adulthood and return to lay their eggs at Baker’s Beach.

D.      Environmental pressures unrelated to the chemical spill have caused a significant decline in the population of one of the several species of sea birds that prey on Merrick sea turtle eggs.

E.       After the chemical spill, an environmental group rejected a proposal to increase the Merrick sea turtle population by transferring eggs from Baker’s Beach to nearby beaches that had not been affected by the spill.

The answer is B. I think the logic gap in this question is insane and huge.

years ago增加了。 Female Merrick sea turtles begin returning to Baker’s Beach to lay their eggs when they are ten years old.

Their returning when they are ten years old is saying that the return of the animal was becasue it's time for them to return, not becasuse there is no pollution. Therefore, it weakens the refutation to the environmentalist's argument.

It's just the logic is too far away and it's really hard to come up an answer when you first look at the question

7.     Research during the past several decades on the nature of language and the processes that produce and make it understandable has revealed great complexity instead of underlying simplicity. (C)x

(A) that produce and make it understandable has revealed great complexity instead of underlying simplicity

(B) of producing and understanding it have revealed not underlying simplicity but great complexity

(C) by which it is produced and understood has revealed not underlying simplicity but great complexity

(D) by which it is produced and understood have revealed great complexity rather than underlying simplicity

(E) by which one produces and understands it have revealed great complexity instead of underlying simplicity

The answer is A, but I still think (C) is correct

OG-101

101. Even though the direct costs of malpractice disputes amounts to a sum lower than one percent of the $541 billion the nation spent on health care last year, doctors say fear of lawsuits plays a major role in health-care inflation.

(A) amounts to a sum lower 主语是costS 主谓不一致 同A

(B) amounts to less 同A

(C) amounted to less 数量用less不用lower 如果是number才用lower

(D) amounted to lowerC

(E) amounted to a lower sum
