1)what could be considered as special? major? intership? or long term goal?

2)how is the IC's placement, compared to LSE?

3)As it is not clear the job market next year, is there any chance to get into the doctoral program in MFE& MSF,and percentage?

i can only say that it is the toughest year ever. not sure about the job placement of other programmes.

for undergrads, if they are really good or have some career planning , they should have secured a job by now. There are many chances for them to do an internship and get a return offer in 3 years.

school does play a part in your application. however, thats not the end of the world. you can impress them with other things, like GPA, gmat and PS.

if i am someone from the committee, i would make sure that the selected students could handle the course work effectively.

I thought the MsF would be easy for me, as i have 2 levels of CFA... but... it is clearly not the case at the moment. I had some advantages in certain areas, but there were lots more to learn. therefore, some evidences of your ability are required. maybe you can request for  an interview? not sure about that

let me quote some ideas from the career service office in LSE:

the financial sector  definitely experienced a hard hit, and many banks cut cost by massive firings. employers tend to give more short term jobs than permanent offers. overall, the banks (referring to IBs) probably do not know what they are doing or what they should be doing at the moment.

I guess we need to have an understanding of the recruitment model. all banks prefer to hire full time from interns ( safer bet, isn't it?) the internship itself is an extended interview. therefore, it is hard to get a full time offer directly. to put it simple, if i have someone who had an internship from goldman, why would i be interested in someone without any experience in the sector?

the career service lady actually joked with us last time, saying that you guys are in LSE, should be more optimisitc. after all, if everyone is queueing for  an offer, you are in the front rows. thats the original idea. it makes sense, 覆巢之下，安有完卵？we got to pray for a turning point, and wait for the chances to come.

在网申系统中看到referee都是academic,但是美国很多学校都是要求一封学术一封职业,即使是实习的上司也可,请问是否两封推荐信都必须是学术呢?还有就是没有发现上传简历的地方,是否就代表不需要了呢?非常感谢~

1. can be anything, indeed, anything. i cant give you an answer, cause there is no single correct answer, or simply , there is no answer. you got to get used to this kind of thing in LSE. they encourage diversity and creative thinking. The PS is your show time and you are unique.

2. well, like what i said, same programme, most of the ppl will choose LSE.

In London, if you are in any of the 4 universities, cam, ox, lse, ic, you will receive a certain level of " recognition" from the employers. furthermore, if you are from the relavant majors and you did a good research on the firm , you should have the chance of an interview ( in normal years).

3. you are right, no one has an idea about the market at the moment. but if you want a PhD, i would recommend Mfe or Msc Econs. they are more academic.

What about LBS compared to the 4 universities?
