Here is how I usually deal with CR.
First, get familar with the common logical fallacies, such as:
- false causality (mere correlation, temporal sequence)
- false analogy ("orage and apple")
- unrepresentative statistical sample,
- tainted data of survey or poll
- time shift (all things are equal then and now or in the future)
- group-member (what's true for group is true for a memeber; vice versa)
- false condition (necessary condition, sufficient condition)
- circular reasoning ("I'm good because I'm good")
- vague or ambiguous evidence (evidence not necessarily supports conclusion)
- undefined important term
- over-stretching (making too broad a claim in scope or depth)
- assuming false exclusivity
- arguing for 2 competing objectives
etc.

Then,
- Read the question first.
- Read the stimulus, try to note the conclusion, evidences, and assumptions
- Quickly determine the line-of-reasoning and potential logical fallacy (or fallacies)
- Quick phrase your own answer to the question, if possible
- Browse the answer choices and pick the one that match yours
- If not found, re-read the question, then use the elimination technique

14. Among the more effective kinds of publicity that
publishers can get for a new book is to have excerpts
of it published in a high-circulation magazine soon
before the book is published. The benefits of such
excerption include not only a sure increase in sales
but also a fee paid by the magazine to the book's publisher.

Which of the following conclusions is best supported
by the information above?
(A) The number of people for whom seeing an
excerpt of a book in a magazine provides an
adequate substitute for reading the whole
book is smaller than the number for whom
the excerpt stimulates a desire to read the book.
