cojazzh, you did not meet me at the world mba tour.  i was out of town and was not able to be back in time for it.  that's also probably the last time that you will see karla in shanghai.  a new guy will take over marketing in china.  she will be covering the rest of asia.

i graduated in jul 2006.  for insead alumni, if you are in based in china and are on the mailing list, you should have seen the email from me a while ago, introducing myself.  i'm working for a non-profit entity of insead based in china.

inseadsh has basically covered a lot of stuff about job search and career services.
jul intake - unless you intend to do IB, you have time to prepare yourself for the job search in march/april.  it is slighly harder in that sense because you are being recruited out of cycle for most of the companies especially if you are intending to work in america.
dec intake - you are thrown right into the job search for an internship...and then after that internship, you are going for the fulltime position

the key word is networking.  and that is essentially what you need to do.  mine the insead alumni directory.  ping the alumni in the companies that you are interested to work for.  if all the above conversations among the insead alumni has not convinced you, well, let me say it out loud, insead alumni do not bite.  we are friendly and helpful people.  insead has a knack of bringing helpful friendly people to the mba program, unlike some other american schools.  i do not want to name names, but yeah, i have interacted with alumni from those schools...lets just say that you can easily tell the difference.

I can't say more than just really thank you guys for bringing us such helpful information. I was totally convinced, once more, that INSEAD is definitly the school that you can find a lot of smart, open-minded and helpful people.

I had a mock interview with an MD from Merrill Lynch today. She looks sharp but turned out to be nice lady.

My eyes are swollen today. Anybody knows how to deal with it? Maybe I really need more sleep to pacify my irritated body.

was busy for a while.  let me try to answer some more questions

as i have said in previous posts, we learn from our one another.  mock interviews are organized by career services and also the student organizations.  to be honest, if you want a mock interview with some alumni on campus, just go and ask them.  if they are free, they should be willing to do so.  i had my friend from mckinsey gave me a mock interview once.  this is what insead is all about.  obviously, there should be a sharing spirit.  there have been people that just leveraged the network but never gave anything back in return.  after a while, everyone will be wary of those people and stay away from them.

wonderful background information.  insead looks for 4 things
1) leadership ability
2) management potential
3) academic ability
4) international outlook

other than that, i dont have a clue as to what type of profile INSEAD looks for, officially.  unofficially, INSEAD tends to produce a certain type of people.  that i cannot say, because if you try to be who you are not, in order to get into INSEAD, you will be miserable during INSEAD. 

there's nothing wrong with using "climbing the corporate ladder with the MBA" as the goal.  try to structure it in a better manner.  how would you feel if you were the admissions committee that you read an application that stated "the reason that i'm going for my mba is because i think with my mba, i can move into a higher position after that..."???

there's another interseting statistic about INSEAD that career services will not let the outsiders to INSEAD know.  i don't think that it is bad to show it.  at least about 30% of INSEAD alumni change jobs within the 1st year post INSEAD.  now why is that?  it is not because we INSEAD alumni are fickle minded and can never make up our mind.  rather, i found that a lot of times, the reason was that these people were frustrated in their jobs...and didn't feel like they could make the same impact and influence in their jobs.  so instead of rotting away for another 2 years, dealing with the politics and inefficiencies, they left their jobs and looked for something else.  that's what an INSEAD mba can do to you, empowering you with the confidence that if you wallk away, you can find something better and more suitable for you.

I think the target audience of MBA info session is exactly prospective candidates.  As long as you are in, why you still need to care about a presentation aiming to solve "who the B-school want" question?
