天香国猪, which part you didn't understand? I thought Babypace answered your question pretty clearly.
"绿卡这事情,没有定数。" -- this is very true. Some of my Chinese co-workers got their green card 6 months after they submitted their 485 while other stuck in Name Checks (background checks) for 2 or even 3 years and are still waiting. The folks in the latter group have spent 5 or even 7 years in the frustrating green card process. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please do not mislead. Having an A number DOES NOT mean you are a PR.
If your 485 petition is employment-based, giving up your job while 485 is pending is risky. CIS could turn down your 485 if they find out you don't have a job or a job offer in your hand because your GC is EMPLOYMENT-BASED.
If you are a dependent in the 485 application (e.g. a wife on her husband's 485 case), you will be fine. You can go back to school or do whatever you want.
when you are waitting for the official green card, if you have received a A number from the homeland security, it means you are already permanent resident. if not, you are still not permanent resident.
if you are permanent resident, you may apply any school in america with many benefit. also, you won't submit the higher international institution fee.
