1. Language barrier is always a topic for Chinese students in the job hunting. I don't quite understand how "good" in English will be considered non- (seems impossible) or less language barrier? My experience in the U.S. MNC is that most of my Chinese peers don't speak very good English, but they are doing very well in the company. One of them is a senior marketing manager, who graduated from a 200+ ranked MBA program. Personally, I think your English is not bad. (You hosted the Austin Ad. Q-A session last time on CD). Do you think your English will be a barrier for you in the job hunting? How's your English level compared to other students in the class (including American students)?
In consulting and marketing, it is language intensive. A lot of American idioms and cultural things that are really difficult to understand. If you can understand 90% of the American commercials, then you are good for any job. For me, I concentrate in Finance, and there is no problem, but I can not handle the consulting and marketing jobs in US.
For your marketing manager case, is he/she in China? In China, you can say everybody speaks good English, but if it is in a Company in US, you will understand there is a huge difference. Not everybody is speaking like the MBA assistant Dean...
2. To clarify the meaning of "International students", do you mean those students who need a H1B sponsor or all the International students, including those with GC? Do you hint that the chance of getting a job in MKT area is really slim? It's really bad news for me, as I want to work in MKT area.
If you have a green card, then you are not considered a international student. There is no restriction for your employement. I am talking about H1B here. As I said, in Marketing, culture is a barrier. Another reason is that marketing positions are less than finance jobs. Companies like Frito-lay, Coca-cola, or P&G usually recruite one person for marketing, and there are many Americans waiting for that. But there are more chance in Consulting companies concentrating on marketing.
Thanks again for your information!
